Blostein/Overly Architects seeks submissions for an exhibition to be held in conjunction with the second annual “GO WEST!†event on Saturday, June 12 2010. This year’s offering will pair three curated gallery spaces with live music and entertainment in the 900 block of West Broad Street of historic Franklinton.
Architects, Landscape Architects, designers, and artists have always been called upon to imagine better futures through design of cities and cultural spaces within them. As our nation’s economic growth teeters on the precipice of the unknown, architectural speculation takes on new meaning and importance. Realizable (but unfinanced) big development plans are “put on the back burner,†“shelved,†or “dead on arrival.†Despite this, the design community continues to be placed in the position of imagining a brighter, loftier future, even in a state where that future may seem at times far, far away.
“Trial Balloons†are leaked pieces of drawings and models or other forms of information set afloat in order to observe the reaction of a targeted audience. Sometimes these ideas take off, sometimes they pop, sometimes they merely float away. As such, TRIAL BALLOONS seeks submissions of either imaginary or client/competition sponsored shelved projects, fantastic speculations, or inconceivable fantasy. When money is no object, these projects show a range of alternate conditions that we may imagine for our cities and lifestyles.
