Even though the sale was from November, it looks like *someone* is trying to get the economy going again.
This place must be astounding inside. I live on the same block and have never given it a second look until I read the article in Sunday's Dispatch. Zillow page with a better photo.

Yeesh. I had read that it is (financially) pointless to improve your house to the point where you price yourself out of the neighborhood, but this proved that wrong. It sounds like they renovated the heck out of it! What do you think it will sell for in 10 years when the young couple from California has a few kids and decides to move for the schools? :-)

The implications of this transaction are really puzzling. Maybe there is some salient detail that is missing; such as other unimproved land included in the sale or the sale included Charlie Sheen's briefcase.
Just think, the couple could have bought 3 houses in the neighborhood. The guy could have bought another house just to turn into his den/sportbar/gym. What guy would not want that?

If you can afford an expensive house, you can afford to send your kids to private school. ;) Honestly though, there are some good CCS schools in Clintonville.

If the home, surrounded by 1920s Colonials and Tudors of less than 2,000 square feet, isn't typical, neither was the sale. The house was never actively listed. Instead, the owners had mentioned to Clintonville RE/MAX agent Pat Kearns-Davis that if she could get what they wanted for the home, they would sell.
Why? How? What improvements? How much did the owners want to as a legitimate offer to sell? Why(again)?
I was in the shower tonight and I had an A-HA! moment: although the improvements in the house are modest and fit the style of the home and neighborhood, the house came with a brand new washing machine full of currency and maybe a doggy door (actually this is more my wish of home improvement).

I love how stories like this blow some peoples minds. OMG why did they do it? Why did they buy? What improvements? What color was the bathroom wall?!?!
People spend more money on things then they are worth or they should all the time, so why is a house any different? It's just a larger example.
The comparisons and shock are interesting, at least for me, because my house is less then half a mile from houses that are 1 million + and less then half a mile from houses that are listed for under 8K. In this case all the comparisons are within the same hood boundary, in my comparisons you often, but not always, cross invisible lines to get the price change.
