The worst radio station in the midwest, or just Columbus' worst?

    Discuss.

I have to admit to having a huge crush on John Corby. and when Curt Boster was on, he was awesome too.

The rest of the time, i mostly just yell at glenn beck.

The local stuff isn't bad. Usually some good banter between Corby and his boys. I mostly listen for the traffic reports since 33 is a bitch if something happens. Coast to Coast is pretty fun when I drive up to open.

When it's time for Rush and Beck, I just tune to WOSU FM. Sometimes I have to w/ Corby, like his show when the 3C was announced.

I like it, listen a lot actually. BC has become fairly boring in the morning though. Beck and Limbaugh serve to entertain me and very occasionally rile me up, so that's good stuff I guess. I'm with Lisa though, in that I really enjoy John Corby and find it some of the most entertaining radio around normally, particularly the Big Bass Brothers. I don't ever agree with Joel Riley about anything, but enjoy listening to him as well.

I don't mean to sound like a meanie, but I can't stand 10 minutes of John Corby's show.

"Hey, if you have a story about an experience with a toilet seat, give us a call." Followed by a bunch of old retired or unemployed people sitting at home calling into the radio station to recite their "neat" stories and anecdotes.

His sidekick dude is annoying and basically just sits around and rings a bell after each commercial break to announce the big (insert day of the week) show.

    Holy pass on that, Batman.

how can you not like the So Happy Its Tuesday show?

i wish joel riley would get a regular show again. his producer ben johnson had a good show sunday nights for a little while too.

there are some especially awesome callers on the sunday afternoon and evening shows. it used to be dirk thompson, but now i think chuck douglas does it.

i'd like to see them get rid of one of the syndicated shows in the evening and put on another local host. hannity isn't even live, so get rid of that and put a local guy on for at least an hour.

You're forgetting the once a week bash the mayor/downtown/anything seemingly progressive for Columbus/Ohio show

Of course, you could also consider this as evidence that the mayor and others aren't making even close to a strong enough case for those "progressive" ideas. The 610 audience is probably a much more realistic sampling of what people in Columbus think and want than C/U is. Convince them, you will get things done.

I won't argue that. I've also not really heard all that much in the way of insightful commentary against any of that while listening to 610 either.

definitely. although i don't think either of them make any published list, i've heard that BC and corby's jobs are always safe at 610 because of how influential they are in central ohio.

if anyone wants a small taste, listen to where the big bass brothers go to lunch at on friday and then go there the next day. it's generally packed all day with middle-age and older people all talking about corby.

My dad actually won a car from 610 back in 1983...John Corby made the call, I believe..or perhaps, Bob Conners...I was only 10 (memory is slipping quickly). So, for as much as I personally do not care so much for talk radio, I definitely have an affinity for this station. :)

I buckled down and listened to the station for the first time in about 15 years last night on account that I heard my neighborhood was being trashed by them.

Tuning in simply proves why my AM button doesn't have a single fingerprint on it. Between the 30 minutes worth of commercials per hour and the constant catering to the least common denominator, anyone with half a brain wouldn't bother. It's nothing but background noise. Garbage.

See ya in another 15 if you're lucky, WTVN...

I wake up to 610 on weekday mornings, BC has a great way of concentrating everything you need to know into a short timespan (weather, traffic, gas prices, school delays and any major news stories). During the day, I generally listen to Howard Stern, then the replay of Howard Stern, then Bubba the Love Sponge.

I'll tune over to Corby once in a while (if Bubba's talking NASCAR or wrestling or has Hulk Hogan on the phone for half the show), Corby's hot and cold on topics, but a great source for finding out where the traffic jam was an hour ago.

Where WTVN shines is when something big is going on like the power outages a couple years ago and any major winter storms. Nobody else in town can provide that depth of coverage on a moment's notice. I don't find politics on radio or TV to be interesting. Luckily, when I bought my radio, I got the deluxe model, it's got both a power switch and the ability to change channels.

I try and keep it on 90.5 as much as humanly possible but I don't usually dig the music, with the exception of the World Cafe, Shakin It and Blue Collar, or shows like teacher talk. So sometimes I have to stray. I like the Columbus resident call in and talk about random topic shows. I don't know why, but I do.
I do miss Ben Johnson's show. And the Bob Conners morning show is terrible. Way too many commercials in general.

@Tigertree, you just got my attention..what is this show "teacher talk?" is this on 90.5? What is it? (yes, I am a teacher).
