I think several parties can be listed at fault here. By far, the parents are idiots, but do they have no friends that said, wtf are you doing? Or grandparents? Did NO ONE ELSE see this girl? That video certainly had other 'neighbors' commenting. No one could step up and ask the parents 'what the hell is going on with you?' She was 7 (I think she is 9 now?) wasn't she in school? I don't know her backstory, so maybe she was homeschooled?
I am all about personal resposibility and being held accountable for your own actions, and if are parents for your children's until they are old enough to make good decisions, but I think the school should have seriously be stepping in here. Or the school nurse.

And the scene with the girl playing with Barbies?! Really?! Thanks abc, lets just go ahead and blame Barbies for girls' poor body images as well.
I can't even think of a proper punishment for the trash that is her parents. Sterilization for sure comes to mind.

Jesus. This is simply inexcusable. I'm really torn about a news program showcasing this in such a way. I feel like they're exploiting this situation, telling viewers to watch the next day to watch her flop around on a mattress like a beached whale, but, on the other hand, raising awareness of this sort of thing probably isn't all that bad, either.
The crazy thing is that I can't seem to find anything about this girl's story online aside from other links to this video and similar forum posts. I want to be furious at this girl's parents, but I don't want to make any hasty assumptions. Anyone have any links?

Jesus christ on a bike. Americans are f$%^ed up even more than I thought.
I've got a weight problem (aka i'm a fat ass) but that's because of my poor eating and lifestyle choices. I'm not saying that I want to have a "skinny" kid. I just want a healthy and active kid. If i noticed them sitting on their lazy butt, i'd kick them off the couch and try to get them into some kind of activities!
Everyone nowadays can't stand to see their kids cry. What the hell is up with that. If I went, "mom, i'm hungry!" She'd say, "Quit yer whining. Dinner is in an hour! Have a saltine if you think you're going to pass out!"
If she had given me every damn thing I ever wanted to shove in my mouth, I would probably weigh even more than I do now, or be dead. I mean, if she's crying because she's hungry, look at her: i don't think it will kill her to go hungry. It will kill her to NOT go hungry.
How can any form of government, local, state or federal, not do something to get this poor little girl some help?! I mean, this is as bad as starving a child. She can't even get from the floor to the couch without having a heart attack.
How is she going to feel when she's 20, and she sees old videos of herself being made fun of on "The Insider." It's not even a real news program for chrissakes!!!
