Ok, everyone at my work is freaking out. 2 people got seperate phone calls from there spouses saying that a gas station on Roberts Rd is posting $4.45/gallon for regular gas. Then 20 minutes later another phone call from someone's spouse in saying that a gas station in Heath is posting the same price. Elaborate Hoax????? I find it hard to believe that it would jump 70 cents in one day. I checked columbusgasprices.com but haven't seen anything. Can anyone confirm....

are we gonna start a thread everytime gas goes up?

no, but this jump seems a little to extreme to be true. I am simply trying to see if this large jump is reality or someone trying to start a scare. Until I see it with my own eyes I vote for the latter.

diesel is hitting that mark here, but nothing on MSN Auto reflects these reports:
http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1&l=1&zip=43201&x=18&y=15
in fact that would almost make these stations the highest in the nation - $4.5 in Commack, NY.

I am going to cry foul on this claim. But if you do look at ohiogasprices.com then click on Heath you will see one lonely gas station posting $4.55/gallon regular unleaded. I think someone is F**ing with the attendant on duty....

unleaded 87 is going around 3.75, but the higher octanes (93) could fetch 4.50
so it might be a reality for people driving high compression sport cars

I saw $3.97/gal for 93 octane this morning.

Having to regularly buy high-octane gas, it's almost always $0.20 more expensive than regular. Which, if you're filling up with 10 gallons as an average, only amounts to an extra $2 or so per fillup.
All things considered, I'd rather be filling up with premium on a car that gets relatively good gas milage versus regular on one that isn't so economical.

Engines designed to use higher octanes will provide extra mpg by using such fuel. Money saved by using a lower octane or "regular" gasoline often disappears since more fuel is required to match the mpg of the intended fuel.
I completely agree that as the overall price of gas increases, the additional cost to use premium has become negligible.

cars i've owned the last 6 years have been running 93/94 all the time...
if you by a car that can utilize that octane, then you shouldnt care about the small difference in price

I used to live near Commack and the prices on Long Island are always a bit higher than most other places. I always have chalked that up to a higher tax and the fact that you can't pump your own gas--it's all full-service. It still sucks if that's the future out here, too.
I just drove from Columbus to Richmond, VA, and back this weekend (thanks, Skybus!) and I rented a Ford Focus, which I figured would be relatively fuel-efficient. Spent more than $100 in gas alone. :)

I got some clarification on what went down yesterday. Evidentally some attendant at a gas station in Heath posted the deisel price of 4.55/gallon in the regular spot. The funny part is this caused a mini panick in Heath. I guess after the high price was posted at gas station "A" that a huge line formed around the block at station "B" because they all thought they were getting a bargain on gas. This is going to be an interesting summer.......
