I've made a lot of headway in getting bike racks installed all over the urban core thanks to the city's receptive 311 Call Center. However, numerous requests have since been ignored with this same message for each one:
CUSTOMER REQUESTS BIKE RACK HOWEVER REQUEST IS NOT BEING PROCESSED BECAUSE NO CONTACT INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED. IN ORDER TO CONSIDER THIS REQUEST, THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS APPLY: ¿ CONTACT INFORMATION MUST BE PROVIDED. ¿ REQUEST MUST COME FROM THE PROPERTY OWNER LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE PROPOSED BIKE RACK LOCATION.
1. You aren't told that not providing contact info will result in the instant denial of your request.
2. They already have my contact info and even when you make a request as a "guest" you must provide your e-mail, which last time I checked is "CONTACT INFORMATION".
3. They never mention that you need to be the property owner near the proposed bike rack location.
4. When did it become a rule that the property owner must be the one to request a bike rack along a public right of way?
Way to backpedal (pun not originally intended) on the progress we were making towards making our urban core more accessible to cyclists. They should keep in mind that it was only after I made the requests that dozens were installed as a direct result in several neighborhoods from the Short North to Franklinton to Linden to SoHud to Olde Towne East to the Peach District, etc. They already know who I am and they can easily re-open those requests and act on them rather than have me go looking up each request number and the corresponding location for every bike rack request that was ignored and re-enter all of the info again for each one.
