Drexel's 29th Annual 24-Hour Sci-Fi Marathon is Saturday, May 19 - Sunday, May 20 from noon to noon.

Join us for the 29th Annual Ohio 24 Hour Science Fiction Marathon! The Sci-Fi Marathon is an entire spin of our planet watching science fiction features, premieres, over-looked gems, vintage trash and classics, along with cartoons, shorts and previews of coming attractions from years gone by. Hundreds of prizes are awarded to all winners and entrants in the Annual Costume Contest, as well as other contests and competitions at random. Those who survive the entire 24 hours will also receive the much coveted chrome Certificate of Marathoid Behavior to impress their friends. The devoted, demented Marathoid throng will return from far and wide to experience this year's 'thon. The communal comaraderie of this audience often makes the unbearable hilarious and the great even more glorious. Surviving the sleep-deprived ordeal with this crazed crowd brings us together in delightful, bizarre, and unexpected ways.

Here's update on the 29th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Science Fiction Marathon set
for Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 at the Drexel Theatre, 2254 E. Main St.
Just announced are 2 new Ohio Premiere's to the Marathon's feature film line-up.

Writer-director Eric Hayden’s inventive and gripping science fiction adventure THE LAST PUSH is a story of survival, discovery, and courage in the face of overwhelming odds. When a space probe discovers signs of life on Jupiter ’s moon Europa, Earth sends a two-man spacecraft on a 13-year mission to obtain photographic evidence. Astronaut Michael Forrest (Khary Payton) finds his assignment altered when an accident kills his co-pilot and damages the spacecraft; not only must Forrest spend three years alone in a cramped module, but he also must repair the ship in time to adjust his trajectory in order to return home. With limited communication to mission control, manned by Brian Baumgartner (“The Office”), the isolated astronaut’s mental and physical endurance are pushed to their limits. Also starring cult icon Lance Henriksen (“Aliens,” “Millennium,” “The Terminator”). THE LAST PUSHfeatures incredible special effects in the vein of Moonand Silent Running. Also premiering at this year's Sci-Fi Marathon is MANBORG. Imagine Robocop and Universal Soldier mashed up in a pastiche of every 80s’ straight-to-video genre movie and you get some idea of what to expect from Manborg: clichéd characters and dialogue, stop-motion monsters, dodgy green screen and special effects that look like they are straight out of the Troma school of filmmaking. Another Premiere announced for the Drexel's 24-Hour Science Fiction Marathon.
This year’s Marathon, May 19-20 will present the Ohio Premiere of The Captains written and directed by
William Shatner. Since soaring onto television in the 1960’s Star Trek has become one of the most beloved franchises of all time. Now, the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, goes boldly where no director has gone before and interviews the five other actors who have played Starfleet captains over the decades. The roll call includes Chris Pine, who played the younger version of James Tiberius Kirk in the most recent Star Trek film, plus Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Jane Mulgrew and Scott Bakula. The film includes interviews with other cast members, clips from the television series and the films, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at this Pop culture phenomenon as well as the men and women who made it.

Drexel Theatre Holds 24 Full Hours of Sci Fi Classics

Science Fiction fans will get the chance to watch a diverse array of Sci Fi films for “an entire rotation of the planet,” this weekend. The Drexel Theatre will be holding the 29th annual 24-hour Ohio Science Fiction marathon from noon Saturday, May 19 until noon Sunday, May 20. The marathon is a presentation of Science Fiction films, features, shorts, classics, cartons, and hundreds of Sci Fi vintage trailers, according to Jeff Frank, the artistic director at the Drexel Theatre.

Starting Saturday at 12:00 noon is the 29th Annual Drexel 24 Hour Science Fiction Marathon. Imagine being in a movie theatre with 200 or more movie buffs for 24-hours straight. You can come and go, but the fun is trying to stay awake for the entire show. (We keep the coffee hot all night.) There will be 12 feature films, but what’s at the heart of the event is all the incredible short subjects, hundreds of rarely seen Sci-Fi trailers, contests (sometimes pre-planned and sometimes made up on-the-fly), and nifty prizes donated by major movie studios. You might even win a John Carter watch! If you’ve never ventured out to a Marathon, consider coming this year. After all, how many places invite you to fall asleep in public!

Besides 12 Feature Films, the short films are always a huge hit at THE MARATHON! Some of the most popular showing this weekend are GRAVIETY,a hilarious spoof done in public-schools educational films style that features young Mary Jane who asks her family members the question, "What is Gravity?"; the Marathon favorite, SPACEBOY, This bizarre film was written and stars Czech starlet Florence Marley, star of "Queen Of Blood" about an expedition to Venus and Mars in the year 1990, co-starring Basil Rathbone, Dennis Hopper, John Saxon. "Space Boy" features Marley playing the title character and utilized her vocals, and has some very unusual sound effects. One of the rarest Sci-Fi films of all-time. And the clasic Sci-Fi cartoon DUCK DODGERS IN THE 241/2 CENTURYstarring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian.
