I'll be there!
Things seem to be coming together REALLY slowly this year though -- the marathon is only two weeks away and they haven't even announced the full film lineup yet. I know they're always working to the last minute trying to get various prints in, but this is pretty short notice even for them.
Here's what they've announced so far:
MOON (2009)
GALAXINA (1980)
INK (2009)
SLEEP DEALER (2008)
BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1959)
GODZILLA VS MOTHRA (1992)
STAR TREK (2009)
2010 (1984)
LONG HAIRED GIANT MONSTER: GEHARA (2009) (a short)
Check the Films page for more as they get posted (hopefully soon!)
Ink was one of my favorite movies of last year, and Moon was pretty enjoyable as well. I'm also actually a fan of 2010 as well, Roy Scheider is always cool.
I haven't gone since high school (I think 1999 was my last year), but I'm going this year. I'd already decided that before the films were listed, but they look pretty good so far.
Mostly I'm excited to see Gravity again.
I will be there! Should be a great time.

They actually didn't show it last year - or the year before if I'm remembering correctly. Don't know what happened, but it's one of the Marathon standards - so hopefully they bring it back. I'd MUCH rather see that than "Spaceboy" ...

Really? Gah! I'd even settle for the edited version if it was that or nothing. Not seeing it wouldn't ruin the marathon, but I'd be disappointed.
I'm kinda amazed that Gravity has never reached YouTube. That seems like a natural place for it.

Gosh, I wish I could go. I went to the first several marathons up at the Drexel North. I used to bring a cot and set it up in the back to catch some sleep. I remember the first time the crowd saw GRAVITY.
My best memory was when they showed the original VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED. At end George Sanders' character keeps saying, "A brick wall" in order to concentrate and keep the evil telepathic children from reading his mind and learning that he has planted a bomb to kill them all. For the rest of the marathon, every time a character on the screen asked a question, the audience would yell out as an answer, "A brick wall!". The next year, that tradition continued. It was hilarious, especially since some of the audience had no idea why people were shouting it.
It makes for stimulating conversation at home too.
Mae: "What do you think about the Three C Rail proposal??"
Hugh: "A brick wall!"
We've just finalized two more Premieres for this weekend's OHIO 24-HOUR SCIENCE FICTION FILM MARATHON. We're thrilled to be showing the
Midwest Premiere of the Audience Award Winning Film from the SXSW Film Festival, RICHARD GARRIOTT: MAN ON A MISSION at the Marathon. Here's what Harry Knowles of AIN'T IT COOL NEWS says about this remarkable film, "RICHARD GARRIOTT: MAN ON A MISSION is an amazing tale about the first 2nd Generation in space. It's a story about a man that had no chance of going into outerspace, and did something unimaginable! The film features some of the most spectacular space footage ever shot."
Having it's Ohio Premiere is THE LOST SKELETON RETURNS AGAIN,
director Larry Blamire's follow-up to the hilarious, minding bending
THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA. All the original cast from the first film is back, along with some new additions, in this hilarious tribute
to the Z-Grade sci-fi films of the 1950's and 1960's. Variety calls it, "Irresistible entertainment. Blamire retains a firm hold on retro-psychotronic cinema!" For more information of the 27TH ANNUAL OHIO

If it sounds like fun but you're not ready for that kind of commitment, try the Halfathon...
Honestly, the movie lineup is a little underwhelming this year, some good things in there, but not the usual mix of classic, cheese, and new releases we've been used to.
Still, even with the weaker lineup, I'm really looking forward to this weekend. Should be a good time.
