We saw that too. By the time we were aware of what was going on, the young lady had "assumed the position" on the ground, hands cuffed behind her back and a young man was weakly trying to get his hat back on while being bullied by a lady officer. Let's hope all this was for something other than reefer. From the perspective of a random outside observer,the punishment was way out of proportion to the crime.

What punishment? A person tried to run from an arrest and was chased down and handcuffed. Seems kind of straight forward to me.

We saw some people busted for bringing a cooler of beer. It was a group of people with a dog. They were drinking out of cans which was obvious. I am not sure what they were charged with, I guess open container? I saw some signs about BYOB but I do not know the actual laws.

We bought our beer, but I hope those people did not get a criminal record for drinking at Comfest.

I'm perfectly fine with it. This isn't a party to come smoke reefer and trash the park. If CPD stepping up enforcement discourages that element, maybe Comfest can return to some of what people want.

The strangest thing I experience this year was an old English woman came up to me and placed her super cute pomeranian on my lap and stood there awkwardly for several minutes. She then asked me for a joint and I obliged, sweet deal really.

I would also like to add that the Saturday 3pm performance on the Bozo/main Stage was the most atrocious thing I've ever heard in my life.

Holly Near, apparently some "nationally known" folk singer, drove more people to get up and walk to other stages than I've ever seen. Combine her horrid singing voice and terrible songs with her activism speeches and leave your dog home lectures it was too much.

Also, dude burning highly offense smelling incense to the crowd around you'd displeasure and refusing to put it out, fuck you.

I was there from 1-6 or so yesterday, had a flask but also bought a couple beers and food. Had a great time, everyone seemed pretty mellow.

Ellie Lee at 5pm, Gazebo stage. She wailed on guitar. Amazing. walked into the crowd while playing, she really looked like she was enjoying herself, which made it all the more enjoyable for the crowd.

I'm starting to see the appeal of the idea of moving Comfest downtown. It's hard to generate 'community' when you're mostly just shutting down the community the festival is being held in. From my discussions with VV residents, that seems to be the dominant sentiment.

Public transportation isn't able to accomodate everyone and isn't used to its capacity anyhow, so cars are the default mode of getting to and from Comfest. That, of course, means tons of cars in an area that prides itself on the walkability of its community and has meager parking accommodations even for its residents.

If only there was a place to put all of those cars...

If only there was a place to put all of those cars...

I mentioned it earlier but would it be simpler to just expand parking permits for the weekend? Push people to use the lots downtown and at the fairgrounds..

I was down there from noon - 8pm on both Friday and Saturday. The day time crowd is the way to go, after 8pm the lines are just too much for me and I am beat.

PROS

- Offramp stage beer had virtually no line most of the day, loved the addition of summmerteeth.

- I too witnessed the drug bust with the woman running away. It was entertaining to say the least.

- people watching

- popping over to PST for an AC break.

CONS

- food is overpriced, I felt like I was getting gouged a few times. Bourbon chicken was tasty but 7 bucks for a small bowl.

- same vendors every year. I have memorized the location of half the booths from the previous years.

- some not so talented bands... not sure who it was but around 1 or 2 on Friday the main stage band was screaming "F" this and "F" that every other word. I realize most people bring their kids in the afternoon, that would have been more appropriate later in the evening.

- petition gathers, I got harassed every five minutes to sign a damn petition. leave me be!

The $6 gyro from Firdous was the nastiest driest piece of shit there.

Pro for me was amassing something like $50-60 in volunteer tokens and not having to pay a dime for food or drink the entire weekend.

Every comfest I'm more and more glad I moved out of VV.
