Ahh late June... time for the annual Comfest debate to ensue! Just like streetcars and bicycles it is one of the enduring topics that will never....ever...die. As someone who lived on Hubbard and Park for 6 years my experience is that Comfest is something you need to plan for and embrace. Get all your supplies for the week, stock up the fridge and get a bunch of ice. Park your car for 4 days and don't plan on moving it one inch all weekend. If you have a yard like I was lucky enough to have make some room for your friends to park, invite them over and enjoy one of the best weekends in any city in the country. You can walk to get a fishboat, go back to home base and pee and get some water. It is a perk to live in the SN during Comfest, not a curse.

I shifted from on street parking in VV to off street in IV and while I plan on parking and not moving my car all weekend, I know shutting down High Street would have a negative impact to people living in the area. It was a big deal to shut down High from 2nd to 5th for a few hours during Highball now we're talking three days? And while I get that 5th is a main feeder route, Goodale is a pretty decent walk/bus/bike ride down with zero parking in that area to boot.
Perhaps the push should be to have people start parking in the AD lot and walking the 4 blocks to Goodale.

That's a good idea. Not sure how the AD people would feel about it, but it's not a bad thought.

Sorry, not to be all advertisey, but if you enjoy the beer drinking aspect of Comfest you may like to know that this year they will be pouring PBR, Miller Lt and then some craft option or two.

I'm sure that what I'm about to say has been brought up in many threads about comfest, but I'm going to say it anyway. I think that Comfest has outgrown it's home at goodale park, it seems to me to be that overcrowding an already crowded neighborhood no longer makes sense. I know that this might be an unpopular opinion, but perhaps we should consider moving it to somewhere downtown. From friday at 4pm until monday morning at 7am it is mostly a ghost town. It seems to me it would negatively affect considerably less businesses and residences and there would be ample parking in the many empty parking garages. If we are going to consider closing streets, perhaps closing down the streets surrounding the commons, and having the festival there? While I don't claim to have all the answers, I know that I moved away from the VV/SN areas to avoid the headache that Comfest has turned in to.

I can imagine it's a pain for residents, so I don't think shutting down the street is all that wise. I also don't know if the festival would be the same outside of Goodale park. Correct me if I am wrong but don't you buy or rent into the area with at least some idea that these big festivals are going on outside your backdoor?

Maybe the more feasible solution is to make parking permits more wide scale and official. Could the City of Columbus issue a free Comfest pass to anyone in a specified zone? Show your ID and a current utility/lease agreement. Everyone else uses the surrounding garages, COTA, bike, walking and maybe a shuttle service from the fair ground.

I guess I can understand some of the hardship, but it is only one weekend a year and really residents of VV get to enjoy amenities like Goodale Park and the surroundings in their backyard all year round a little easier than the rest of us. It is a bit of a first world problem.

I am excited since this year my new place in WP is within walking distance! Yay for me!

It is not JUST one weekend anymore... It's FOUR! (In a ROW) Park Street Festival, Pride, Comfest, Boom! That is what is starting to annoy a lot of residents in my opinion.

Not directed at you in particular but in general how many of the SN/IV/VV residents on this board predate the festivals?

I predate pride and ParkStreet Fest. Come to think of it I predate the Arena District Bars too. I don't really mind any of the festivals and was just repeating what I have heard in my building and around the neighborhood. =)

Now I feel old.

I'm just curious...even beyond this board. I totally respect someone who's been in the neighborhood well before these festivals really took off. But it's hard to understand any angst from someone who moved in say 5 years ago.

I don't think you will hear too many of those types complaining. It's more of the older crowd I hear it from and they have all been in the neighborhood 10-20 years.

Back in the day, race for the cure blocked off traffic also. Real pain in the ass.

Good causes and all, but it's a neighborhood not a playground as others have said.
