The new white house budget for 2009 domestic programs has been released. Once again it slashes federal funding for cities and detrimentally impacts transit.
Some highlights:
1. A nearly 20% cut for community development block grants
2. Elimination of funding for the Hope VI housing program and brownfield redevelopment fund
3. Moving $3.3 billion from mass transit funding to shore up a deficit in the highway trust fund (because of lower gas tax returns)
The budget still has to go to congress, so if you don't like this news start letter writing and calling your reps.
