Last season's Tony winner for best musical will be a highlight of next season's Broadway Across America series.
In addition to Spring Awakening, the 20th-anniversary season of Broadway tours in Columbus will feature the central Ohio premiere of The Color Purple, a musical based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Alice Walker novel.
"This is a special year for us," said Leslie K. Broecker, president of Broadway Across America-
Midwest.
"We are celebrating 20 years of bringing first-class touring Broadway shows to Columbus, . . . one of the top touring Broadway cities in the country."
The top draw is expected to be the Ohio premiere of Spring Awakening, the winner of eight Tony awards, including best musical, as well as the 2008 Grammy for best musical show album.
