Think You Got What It Takes?
Enter the 2012 Barley's Homebrew Competition! The winner gets to brew a full scale batch of his or her homebrew at Barley's Brewing Company in 2013.
You'll review your recipe with Brewmaster Angelo Signorino to develop it into a full ten barrel batch that will be showcased at the 2013 Afternoon With the Brewers. Then, in the spring of 2013, you'll show up ready to work as you brew your awesome brew in our cellar brewery, right alongside Angelo!
Finally, you'll get to stand behind the bar at the 2013 Afternoon With the Brewers and pour the first pint of your own creation, as the other brewers in Columbus admire you. You are now one of them. Duh. Winning!
But you have to enter, superstar. It's not gonna brew itself! Here's all you have to do:
--Decide what you're going to brew. Your recipe should fall under the guidelines of the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) 2008 guidelines. Select carefully, because the judges, area brewers, are picky. A good beer that doesn't fit the style probably won't win. You can read the guidelines here.
--Brew your favorite recipe. Get creative! We're always looking for something new and exciting. (Look at the sidebar to see what beers have won over the years.) Go popular, or go unique. Whatever you do, make it tasty and irresistable. That's what the judges are looking for.
--Put your beer into (3) unlabeled 12 ounce long neck bottles. Use the Bottle ID Form found here and affix to your bottles.
--Print of and fill out the application. You can get it right here.
--Drop off your beer, your completed application and a $5 entry fee to Barley's Brewing Company, 467 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 on any of the following dates...
Thursday, May 17, 2012 between 11AM and 8PM
Friday, May 18, 2012 between 11AM and 6PM
Saturday, May 19, 2012 between 11AM and 6PM
--Show up to Afternoon With the Brewers when we announce the winner! Afternoon With the Brewers will be held at Barley's Brewing Company on June 3, 2012.
