So has anyone checked out this newish radio station out of Dublin? I love it-extremely wide variety of music, they always seem to be playing stuff I currently or formerly listened to, and there's no annoying DJs yammering about BS during my commute. Plus it seems to be totally commercial free which begs the questions, how are they making money?

I love the new station, too. The songs segue into the other. I am sure ads will increase with the longer airplay. Hope the format continues.

they've been running ads looking for on-air djs for weeks. every single station starts out this way and people think it's awesome for some reason. it'll soon be like every other station.
they should bring back the tv theme songs on sundays or something.

I don't get it, why? I listen to the radio when I don't have my ipod plugged in. I'm not interested in the usual dj drivel comprised solely of atrocious jokes and vapid pop culture references. Play music dammit, be different.

I've been listening a bit off and on. They seem to have fewer commercials, but since they're clear channel I'm sure their costs are lower since they have no staff. Essentially just a computer with a playlist.
The selection is ok so far.
I do like that they have the digital tags for artist & song titles being broadcast. I hate that CD101 doesn't do that.

I was listening during their format change "all TV themes" stunt...
Now...it's just another radio station. Not for me. If I'm listening to the radio, it's talk radio. Otherwise, I'm listening to iPod/CDs

+1 with Walker. I really wish that CD101 had the artists names on there. I know most of the songs but there are a few that I really wish I could see who it was right away. I started listening to 106.7 right around Christmas time driving around the city and loved the no commercials, no DJ format. Now that it is changing I may switch back to CD101 full time again.

I listen to it and am enjoying it so far! I still miss that 91.5 station that changed to Christian. :x

station I've been listening to is 93.3 I think. i don't know if it's been around, but they play a pretty wide variety of good/listenable music with few commercials, especially in the morning.
don't listen to 101.1 unless you LOVE commercials.

when you listen to cd101 online it has the artist tags.

The commercials will come on 106.7, but I think they're trying to build an audience and iron out the setup (placement and length of the breaks within each hour) before trying to sell it to sponsors. CC has a "less is more" philosophy with their commercial load, so they put in 5 or 15-second sponsorship messages rather than :60 spots with the idea that they can drop those short ones in and they'll be as effective in getting you to remember the sponsor's name while also keeping you tuned in.
I hear they'll eventually have regular on-air voices but they'll keep their breaks much shorter and tighter than, say, CD101. This works when 75% of your playlist is more than two years old and people are choosing to listen because they're already familiar with what they're hearing, but 101 has to do some explaining to help people familiarize themselves with the new music. I get the feeling 106.7 won't have "personalities" like your average radio station. I'm fine with that, and both 101 and the Blitz should be thankful that their respective new morning shows won't have a third to compete against.
Personally, I'm going to stick with 101 unless I hear any one of three particular DJs, each of whom make my skin crawl and ears bleed. I can't really get into 106.7 because I don't think we need another station playing Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana in 2008.
I, too, miss 91.5's mix of 80's top 40 pop. I'm not ashamed to say that my daily drive to work was a little more fun with Mr. Mister, Wang Chung or the Thompson Twins.

I have a 35 minute commute one way to work each day. In the morning I listen to CD101 on the way in. There morning show (which has just changed DJ's to my dismay) has just the right mix of music, news, weather and traffic. They play a few tunes, tell you the traffic, play some more tunes, weather. The one thing that has not been up to par has been the "News from Hell". The old Dj's had a great sarcastic wit which kept this bit entertaining. The new DJ has yet to capture this, but I will give him time to find his calling. On the way home its pure Ipod bliss for me, loud and with me singing along and waving glowsticks at passing cars!

Oh no...are you carpooling with these guys again?

I'm a little wary. It's a Clear Channel station, probably trying to push out CD101.

Does anyone know why they changed DJ's?

Yeah, the old Dj's (I can't remember there name right now). Left to start there own internet company. They explained it as a social networking site for bands and venue owners. Bigger and better things.

Brian Phillips and Joe Weasel. Joe started a "new media" company a few years ago that was originally intended as a competitor to ESPN Mobile, the abandoned experiment in delivering content to mobile phones. Joe's company evolved into a Web-based network of college student reporters who cover sports, music, fashion, food, etc. from their respective schools.
It's called ThePalestra.com, which is an erudite reference to ancient Greek culture/education but is basically an unfamiliar word that is hard for people to remember and/or spell.
Brian has been working there as the "West Coast Production & Music Director," whatever that means.
They've apparently received a good bit of support from Fox News and they're working on deals with print magazines and other distribution outlets. They have a music-centered TV show that airs locally late nights on weekends.
I guess the company is doing well enough to allow Brian (who'd been at 101 for at least 12 or 13 years) and Joe (who'd been there since 2001) to focus on it full-time. I guess it's pretty telling when a fledgling Internet start-up has more upside than being a morning radio show team in a major market.
The new morning guy is Joe Jewett, who had been CD101's Production Director and fill-in jock.
