A group seeking to bring a November statewide vote to make Ohio a “right to work” state got the green light to circulate its petition today. The final OK came from the Ohio Ballot Board, which ruled the proposed constitutional amendment is a single issue.

Why doesn't Columbus turn on all of the lights downtown that are on buildings?? Who knows! But I think if they turns the lights on the downtown area would look 1 million times better. Look at NYC and Chicago. Do they turn off the buildings lights? NO! Keeping lights on makes downtown look more attractive and appealing to the eye.

With plenty of chatter about Ohio's 3C Corridor's expected $400M funding today

(here: http://www.columbusunderground.com/3c-corridor-should-receive-federal-funds-tomorrow)

I figured it might be worth talking about the other 12 rail corridors that are getting funded. Here's what I've heard so far:

1 - $2.25B for SanFrancisco-LosAngeles Corridor

2 - $1.1B for Chicago-StLouis Corridor

3 - $1.25B for Tampa-Orlando Corridor

4 - $244M for Chicago-Detroit Corridor

5 - $810M for Madison-Milwaukee Corridor

6 - $590M for Portland-Seattle Corridor

7 - $520M for Raleigh-Charlotte Corridor

Some of these are for new service, some are for upgrades to existing systems.

Anyone else hear anything different?

Anyone excited about any of these in particular?

See the amazing Cult Hit, THE ROOM, Sat. Feb.11 at 12:00 Midnight at the Drexel.
Sometimes referred to as the CITIZEN KANE of bad movies, Tommy Wiseau's 2003 cult film continues it's monthly midnight screenings at the Drexel. Legions of kitsch devotees flock to our screenings in order to laugh, boo, cheer, and pelt the screen with plastic spoons. They're drawn by the films' melodramatic love triangle, the significant number of trite devices introduced and abruptly abandoned in the course of the (for lack of better word) narrative—including but not limited to alleged domestic violence, drug use, orphans—and an aesthetic so cheesy that one might generously compare it to a boudoir setting in a low-budget, soft-core porn flick.

The absurdity of THE ROOM and the experience of its viewing are exceeded only by the person responsible for its creation, mysterious director and star Tommy Wiseau. An enigmatic man with stringy black hair, a face that seems to be crafted from Play-Doh, and a thick, foreign accent, Wiseau has only the highest opinion of his film, boasting that "it's totally different cookie-cutter from Hollywood.

Read more about THE ROOM[b] here: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20246031,00.html
Adm. is $6.50 and $5.50 students. See THE ROOM and believe!

This month is the very first impacts from Healthcare reform AKA 'Obamacare' take effect.

PART 1:
Today, June 14th, medical reimbursement for medicare gets cut 21.3%

Many doctor's offices make a smaller profit than 21.3%. For those offices, they will have to turn away the people who need medical care most, the poor and the elderly. Or close completely.

My parents, for example are paying a retainerof about $2,500 to their doctor to cover the decreased medicare payments and remain as one of his patients.

In the end, this means that the better doctors will be available to the rich as more and more doctors add different retainers. And, consequently, poor care will be available to those on government medical insurance.

PART2:
Medical Students are no longer able to obtain 'hardship deferment' on their medical school loans. With a government regulated pay cap for residents of $40K - $45K, and 6.5% on an average $250,000 of loans (that are not tax deductible) getting a medical education is getting harder and harder.

Many of our resident friends are going to fall below the poverty level. For the shortest residency it's a year of poverty, for the longest, it's 5 years living below the poverty level.

At the same time, residents work about 90- 100 hours a week. So after taxes and student loan interest payments, they will make less than $3.50 an hour. (Yes, that doctor who is trying to save your limb and life, after a car crash, is making half what they could in McDonalds.)

So
The first part, is decreasing the supply of doctors and hence a supply of a limited essential inelastic commodity.

Construction of the new apartment building on the Westminster Thurber’s campus is targeted to be completed by late fall 2015.

Snowville Creamery is looking for $50,000 of support to bring yogurt plan to fruition.

About this project

Snowville Creamery is a small scale fluid milk processing plant located on a pasture based dairy farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Meigs County. Our company processes and bottles milk and cream from local farmers who use sustainable farming practices. The main sources of our milk are the Dix/Hall farm (where we are located) and Hamm Valley farm in Racine, Ohio.

Our project is to bring fresh, local, yogurt, from grass grazed cows, to the public. We only bottle milk from cows that graze on grass and are not treated with growth hormones. Our plant is built on the farm of our friends, dairy farmers, Bill Dix and Stacy Hall. We pasteurize our milk at the lowest legal temperature and for the shortest legal time, we also choose to not homogenize our milk. Our process lets the milk taste the way it used to, fresh. We have already installed a nano filtration system to cold concentrate our fat free milk for Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. We can use this technology to make a yogurt which is very high in protein and thick like Greek style yogurt. Our friends and fans have been asking for yogurt since we first brought our wonderful milk to market; all we need now is the funding.

Snowville Creamery is a community conscious company. We have been looking for a way to become “community capitalized” to avoid having to accrue any more debt with financial institutions, which are not lending in any case. As we talked about community funding we learned two things. One is that we cannot have more than a dozen investors without coming under the purview of the Federal Trade Commission, the other is that there is already a platform for crowd funding: Kickstarter. So we don’t have to reinvent the “wheel of fortune” just to bring our wonderful grass grazed yogurt to the marketplace.

Project kickstarter end date is Feb 10, 2012
