I'd never been in that building. Did it have any enclosed mallway or were all entrances from the outside?

Entrances were all outside. pretty standard strip mall. Nothing historical about it. I miss the Baskin-Robbins that used to be on the corner... lots of friend worked there.

The vacant building in question here is a freakin' strip mall where, if I recall, there was previously in this space a Lazarus, a sporting goods store, a supermarket, an Odd Lots, and... I'm forgetting a few other 'historical' businesses.

I don't disagree with you in this case, but the way you stated that makes it sound like you think any development is better than no development at any high traffic location. That seems like a stretch to me.
1. I don't think people should have to settle for bad design just because the land is currently undeveloped and/or vacant.
2. There are vacant buildings that are important to preserve. See Cleveland's historic Columbia building for an example. It is being torn down to make way for casino parking. Do the positives outweigh the negatives there?

Redevelopment of the tired Westerville Square Shopping Center began Thursday with the property developer’s son knocking down some the plaza that will get a scaled-down Walmart store before the $16 million project is completed in 2013.
Wal-Mart may deliver positives and negatives, but you have to be really politically anti-Wal-Mart to suggests that the positives are fewer and the negatives are greater than a vacant lot at a critical intersection.

Walmart arrival elicits mixed reaction among businesses
Friday, September 9, 2011
By JENNIFER NESBITT
ThisWeek Community Newspapers

Westerville's businesses agree on one thing: Walmart's move into the community will have an effect on what they do. What they don't know is what that effect will be.

"There's an overall concern. You don't take the largest retailer in the world and plop them a mile down the street and not think it's going to affect your business a little," said Westerville Uptown Merchants Association president Kriss Rogers, owner of Outside Envy.

Experts say Walmart delivers both positives, negatives
Wednesday, August 24, 2011
By JENNIFER NOBLIT
ThisWeek Community Newspapers

Editor's note: Who wins with Walmart? The answer depends on whom you ask. This is the first in a four-part print series on the impact of Walmart stores on select central Ohio communities.

The construction of a Walmart doesn't necessarily spell doom and gloom for existing businesses in a community, but the world's largest retailer can have both good and bad effects on a city, according to local experts.

Have you tried Cooper Rd as an alternate route? I haven't used it in many years, but it used to be a good shortcut depending on where you are going from/to.

I typically sit on Cooper Rd for the first 7 - 10 minutes of my commute before I get to Schrock/Cleveland to get on the highway. By 4:30 it's wrapped all the way around from where Chase employees enter/exit down to the driving range.

I know people that aren't in this area at rush hour must think this is all just a bunch of whiners, but it really is chaotic and scary because of all the impatience, people not paying attention, and frustration.
