Maybe I missed something. Why are we looking for softshell crabs in Ohio?

Because it's not really that hard to find fresh quickly-transported seafood in Ohio. Though the cost is a little higher.

Maybe I missed something. Why are we looking for softshell crabs in Ohio? I think you'd do better to pile a bunch of folks into a Prius and drive to the Eastern Shore. When plans firm up. let me know and I'll tell you a couple of good restaurant options. And trust me, they won't give you a bill like G Michael. (Yeah, it will more than compensate for the gas).

If you feel like DIY this weekend, Giant Eagle has a seafood sale. Primes are 2 for $5, and make great little sandwiches. I picked mine up at the Neil Ave location, but you should call your nearest store about availability before you head out.

I made two sandwiches yesterday on kaiser rolls, with LTO, some provolone and creole mayo.
They were really good.

Thanks, Merc! You seem to be plugged into the local social media really well. If you hear of any more locations, especially those offering sandwiches, I would appreciate it.

That reminds me. I need to call the Fish Guys in the N.M. tomorrow. Sometimes they will make them when they have an abundance.

Fish Guys had soft shell crabs on Sunday!

Be there well before 5pm. Pretty much a disappointment in an otherwise decent place.

Banana Bean softshell is no longer an option after their departure from the Columbus dining scene. As we are coming into softshell season, I'm curious if they have been spotted on some of the local menus. Thanks in advance!

Bonefish Grill in Dublin will be serving Maryland soft-shell crab with lump crab cake and a lemon caper sauce for about $18 while its supplies last. Soft-shell-crab season varies by region, but usually is from May to midsummer.

Colin excels at beer and food pairings! He can make a beer that I wouldn't ordinarily order compliment food so well that it seems like destiny! He did equally well @ the little pig dinner (thanx to hungry woolf for the link) I really liked the rye that he paired with the skirt steak. That guy is nuts to serve (probably) corn fed cow with corn and polenta (corn) on the side. I don't know if it was an intentional jab at the way we eat but he made it work!

That rye was really nice; I think my personal favorites were the rye and the saison; I really don't know that much about saison, but the crab paired w/ that was amazing!

Had the softshell crab appetizer at DeepWood last night - it was part of their craft beer pairing dinner and served atop a bed of slaw and paired with a saison; really good! I didn't see it on their regular menu, but if they do add it, it would be worth a trip down there.

The softshell is currently their fish of the day, too. It was pretty good in the beer dinner-kind of a light tempura... I wouldn't be surprised if they offered it as a sandwich for lunch-especially if you call ahead-they are accommodating that way.

Hey 0Angle, did you have any input on the beer pairings last night (well, last week)? They were right on; really looking forward to more beer-food pairing dinners in Columbus!
