Of all the fantastic events that the city of Columbus puts on throughout the year, Comfest is most defiantly my favorite. Every year Comfest weekend proves to be a great time for thousands of Columbus residents as well as those who travel from all over Ohio to attend the festival.

I myself am a Comfest veteran, attending almost every year since 1990 when I was just a youngster, roaming Goodale Park with my brother trying to fit in with the teenagers playing Frisbee. It was interesting to sit back and take in the festival and see how much it has grown over the past years. For most, Comfest is not just about the bands playing or the hand blown glass pipes being sold, its about meeting new and interesting people, and partying hard with the ones that you already know. Saturday at the 2006 Community Festival was no exception, and contained the largest crowd that I have ever seen at the event in past years.

SO BUSY!

But that was great. We went about 9ish on Sat. night. Heard Heartbreak Orchestra and they were awesome like always. Then watched a little of Middle Child. and walked around a little bit. Heard it was insanely busy all weekend which was nice since last year wasn't so great.

So how did everyone enjoy their comfest?

I made it down there about 9pm on Friday - caught the Weightless show at the offramp stage at 10 (easily the most hype concert there.)

Saturday I was three sheets by 2pm, even with a nap I'm not really sure what happened - there are some pictures of me and a creampuff from Schmidts, I don't know really. Saturday = total blur.

Sunday I got to see some of the booths, I enjoyed the bedpan artwork - and the "one hitter wonders" booth was of specific interest to me. Laid out by the main stage for a while then was officially "over it" and went swimming.

2006 Comfest = 7.5/10

Valet service for bikes may ease ComFest parking pinch

Saturday, June 24, 2006

Jeb Phillips

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

This might seem a little froufrou for ComFest, but it’s true: The festival’s organizers have started a bicycle valet service this year.

"Bicycle valet," as it turns out, doesn’t mean that teenagers in golf shirts will park bikes. It’s just the name for a patrolled area where riders can leave their bicycles while they’re being festive.

Washington and Chicago have bicycle valets at big outdoor events. San Francisco has a city ordinance that requires valets at some outdoor events.

This appears to be the first time for one in Columbus.
