Goodale Park had the look and feel of a scaled down ComFest, which is pretty impressive.</p> <p>- Unlike ComFest, there was little respect for the park, which is embarrassing. And while there was a serious lack of recycling containers and staff to monitor them like ComFest, people just left their trash and recyclables (including breakable glass bottles) wherever they were camped out. It was shocking to see this just a week before ComFest.</p> <p><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7383663534_e0697626dc.jpg"><br /> One of the many pockets of leftovers all over the park</p> <p><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7098/7392085080_1c107b1156.jpg"><br /> Overflowing trash container with recyclables</p> <p>- The parade route this year, as in every year, was trashed by the people on the sidelines, and was littered with all kinds of goodies that were handed out or thrown to spectators - candy, condoms, postcards, literature, chips, beads, wristbands - you name it. A cleaning crew and street sweepers followed the parade route to clear all the debris. What a waste! Even the pineapple drinks at the festival. They were wildly popular, but large pineapple skins were tossed in the trash, with no chance to be composted.</p> <p><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7096/7392086560_8ce9354160.jpg"></p> <p>- I suggest that they appoint a GLBT recycling czar (TomOver?) next year to lessen the festival's footprint, and addressing some of these issues. </p> <p>- Despite all the mess, I had a really great time and enjoyed the excitement overflowing around me. A lot of planning went into last weekend, and those involved should be proud of their efforts.</p> <p>- The Fabulous Johnson Brothers were one of the highlights of the day. Once you've clicked on a photo, just type an "L", the photos are surrounded in a black box for better viewing. I asked because last year a guy in front of me asked if it was something he had to pay or a donation. The person taking donations was kinda rude and very vague in her response. He ended up paying because the person didn't want to seem to let him through without making a "donation."
