Thank you. I do think Im looking for something a little more long term cause I'll also need it to be a sculpting studio. I know finding the space for really cheap will prob be a bit hopeful but I most certainly keep your suggestion in mind. Do you happen to have a website?

I hope there's someone who might be able to help me with some information on where to look even if its a warehouse space that just scure and open, doesn't have to be pretty. Id rather keep a good budget lol.

I agree with Gil that Clintonville is similar to Portland in feel, but that's really about the ravines and the style of house and the people. As far as open businesses...not so much. I live there and I love it and I see a ton of potential but we are lacking in a few amenities, bars and restaurants at the top of the list. I do see this changing though.

Welcome! While we can't quite match Portland's beer scene (yet), you'll not suffer, should you be so inclined. And if you don't already like food trucks, you will soon enough.

we're about 8 years behind portland in the food truck scene.

I don't have much to add that I didn't post in the other thread, but it sounds like you might be open to neighborhoods that are a little more "transitional" than the ones decemberjam was looking for. I'm in the KLD just north of OTE, and there is a lot of great stuff around here at very low prices. You just have to be careful since the neighborhood is "spotty" and there are nice sections right next to rough sections. From everything you've said, I think this area would be a great fit for you.

Thank you everyone who has chimed in on this thread. We are not exclusively thinking of just the SN area but we like it because it reminds us of a bit of Portland as far as small business owning and good eats and near a park. We are very open to different area's. My dad lives in Olde Town E and I'm open to that area. My fiance's sister lives in Grandview and we like that area. It's really more about feeling the vibe of the city then being put in the burbs where we have to drive to do things. We enjoy walking, we enjoy dive bars, we enjoy exploring the city. It's why we love Portland. Job offer and family is what is bringing us back and other variables. So in a sense I am trying to reduplicate how we feel and what we like about PDX and translate it to Cbus.

Saw some 2 bedrooms for rent for on King and NW for around $700. Nice walkable area and cheap. Here is the # if you are interested: 1305 King Avenue (614) 493-2119

There are a number of rental units on King that, from what I understand, are quite nice.

However, if you don't find what you're looking for there you might try 3rd in the same area. Bit less visible, internet wise, as most places seem to only advertise via sign, but places pop up from time to time.

There's also this:
http://www.columbusunderground.com/urbanliving/property/tribeca-1-bedroom-units/

I lived on King Avenue in the 5xNW neighborhood for over three years and loved it! I had to temporarily relocate to New Orleans for an environmental project/job and just recently moved back to Columbus; but once I get back on my feet, I'll be moving back to King Avenue.

It's not trendy like the SN or historic like VV/HW/IV/GV or rapidly growing like Downtown, but it's very well priced, convenient, walkable, attitude-free, and safe. 2-3 bedroom apartments/condos can be found for under $1000/month, even in the more historic apartments on King Avenue west of North Star Avenue. Additionally, you can bike to the SN, VV, IV, HW, GV, and Downtown quickly and easily via King Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Third Avenue, Northwest Boulevard, and the bike trail system along the Olentangy.

Lastly, if you have kids or are planning on having them, the public schools that serve the area (Columbus City) are some of the best in the district, i.e. Cranbrook ES, Ridgeview MS, and Centennial HS.
