With an economy that appears to be stuck in an indefinite recession, you may be interested in learning how to save a few bucks.

Cate Taylor slashed her grocery budget by 60 percent after she lost her corporate job in 2009. That first year, Cate was mainly concerned with figuring out how her family would survive on a single income. She began clipping coupons, which led to other creative financial changes.

When she was able to make things work, she started challenging herself and setting goals for an even tighter budget. The result of Cate's diligence is that she has been maintaining, and learning to further maximize, her savings for over two years.

This Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 pm, this local mom will discuss her savings streak at Northwest Library, 2280 Hard Road. During the program, Couponomy, she'll talk about where to find the best coupons and deals, and how to get started and stay organized.

She'll also share her successes and failures, tricks of the trade and how meal planning and stockpiling can help you make even more cuts to your budget.

Budapest gift-shop clerk Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and newly hired shopgirl Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) hate each other almost at first sight. Kralik would prefer the company of the woman with whom he is corresponding by mail but has never met. Novak likewise carries a torch for her male pen pal, whom she also has never laid eyes on. This holiday classic was later remade in 1998 as YOU'VE GOT MAIL.

But on Christmas Eve, George’s Uncle Billy loses the business’s $8,000 while intending to deposit it in the bank. When the bank examiner discovers the shortage later that night, George realizes that he will be held responsible and sent to jail and the company will collapse. Thanks for your input! Bring your ideas to Thursday's discussion! Here are a few other debt-reduction approaches that will be discussed:
•	Raising taxes or eliminating tax loopholes through various means;
•	Cutting spending; and
•	Enacting legal requirements for a balanced budget or a "pay as you go" approach, sunsetting programs and services while at the same time encouraging economic growth and competitiveness as a way to grow the economy and increase revenues.

ever consider growth or having a system which must have growth to function is part of the problem?
