I am sure all this money being spent on 270 (33 & 23) could have given us a great high speed rail system from DT to the SN.

The shopping center at the corner of Dublin Granville Road and Riverside Drive looks something like a mini-Easton. It’s a big enclave with lots of brick buildings and joints like Anne Taylor, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Montgomery Inn and now The Pint Room.

The Pint Room is taking on the role of resident sports-bar-slash-brew-house. The menu boasts a list of one hundred-ish beers on tap that would impress anyone who likes to have lots of choices in beer – and that selection includes solid representation from Ohio brewed beverages.

Sundays at Scioto

Save the dates
30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto summer concert series
Sundays, June 9 through July 28, 2013
7 to 8:30 p.m. each week
Scioto Park, 7377 Riverside Dr., Dublin

The 30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto summer concert series takes place each Sunday evening from June 9 through July 28 in the Scioto Park amphitheatre, 7377 Riverside Dr., in Dublin. This showcase for local and regional performing artists includes almost every musical taste, from Latin jazz to big band swing and country rock. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. and conclude at approximately 8:30 p.m. each week. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged, and guests are invited to arrive early to choose their favorite spot. The concerts are free of charge and donations are graciously accepted.

Concertgoers will be able to select from several food cart offerings at the park each week. Jeni’s Spendid Ice Creams will also be serving their popular, locally produced ice creams throughout the series. Purchases help support Dublin Arts Council.

The annual summer concert series is of historical significance to Dublin Arts Council, which was formed after an ad hoc committee brought the Columbus Symphony Orchestra to the dedication of Scioto Park in 1983. The park is also home to Leatherlips, the first public artwork of DAC’s Dublin Art in Public Places program. The 12-foot high native limestone sculpture of the Wyandot Indian Chief has overlooked the park’s amphitheatre since 1990.

The 30th annual DAC Sundays at Scioto summer concert series is presented by Dublin Arts Council and is supported by corporate contributions, federal and state arts funding, along with contributions of in-kind services and an annual endowment of hotel/motel tax from the city of Dublin.

If weather conditions are questionable, please call 614-889-7444 for a recorded message about delays or cancellations or visit our website, Facebook or Twitter page.
We hope to see you soon in Scioto Park.

This is just ignorant and shows that seeming want to turn me into the hater of all things Columbus as a way to ignore the validity of my arguments. I've been 100% a vocal supporter of all mass transit options and contributed money to local organizations supporing mass transit. I've stated that a small transit options like a simple light rail line up High st is a great option and start. Heck I was the one who brought up the idea of having a bus trolley on high st. to increase demand/awareness for a light rail line.

I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating. I think you do bring a high level of intelligence and a deft understanding of development issues to this board. For that and the conversation it stimulates, I'm grateful. However your tone has fairly consistently been negative and somewhat condescending to the point where you have opened yourself up to satire. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself, I've been made fun of plenty of times. I think the real problem for you is exactly as I've stated before in that your tone tends to make it easy to overlook your contributions.

Lighten up a little and maybe spend some time on a few non development threads and let people get to know you a little, and I suspect you'll get a much better response.

Well, to be fair, you haven't exactly missed an opportunity to praise somewhere else at Columbus' expense, so it should be no mystery as to how you've gained your repuation. We are on the same page regarding development and mass transit, but there are far better ways to promote those ideas than what you've been doing so far.

And you weren't exactly the first one to talk about a High Street rail line.

InnerCore said:
Here is the part that the two of you seem to be missing in your critique of my response. It's one thing to come home with a new car. I'm sure most people with the same or better car wouldn't say much but congratulate you. But it's another thing to come home with that new car and then talk about how its the car of the future and imply that you're the only one with it. Now at that point if someone knows someone else who's had that car for 20 years there probably going to say so.

I've read multiple comments about how this plan could be a national model for suburbs. So what you have is OTHER people comparing this Dublin plan to the rest of the country.

So I get it that people want to "celebrate the win". But you should be able to celebrate the win for what it is and not have to make it something it isn't.

This is a great step forward for Dublin, and will probably do a lot for Columbus as they'll probably be able to provide an urban environment at a much more affordable rate than downtown, something I've been wanting Easton to do as well. But this is in no way a model for the rest of American suburbs as it's just following the model of other existing suburbs.

Why does it matter so much if people, who are no doubt excited about thier project, overhype it a bit? I think most people here know and understand that Dublin is not the first suburb out there to do something like this, nor will it be the last. Also, whether or not it is a national model for EVERY suburb, it will probably end up being a model for some, at least in part.

I just think you want to focus entirely on the wrong thing. You present yourself as being the authority on how happy people are allowed to be over Columbus development and it comes off as extremely arrogant and negative.

So if other places doing it doesn't take away from Dublin's plan and you think this is great news, why not just say so? Why bring up other places in an obvious and completely unnecessary (but not unsurprising) attempt to temper good news?

First off I do like the knowledge innercore brings and appreciate it. That said I know why people get annoyed, it's like you just got a new car and are pumped to show it to everyone and then someone says "yeah it's great but so-and-so got it last week". Even though the facts are correct, it's a Debbie downer thing to say when everyone else is enjoying the moment. If IC just phrases things a little differently he/she could get their point across and still let people celebrate the "win".

Meh, InnerCore is okay, but certainly not an innovator of Columbus criticism. Columbusite did it long before he did (and has now moved his act to Minneapolis).

His attempts to tear down Columbus are laudable, but other cities have better critics, and if you go to Austin or Charlotte you'll find that they are doing a much better job of attracting critics from other parts of the country, not just bumpkins from inside the state or undesirable immigrants.

Bravo, sir. Bravo.

Dublin Moves Ahead with Bridge Street Corridor Plans, Connecting Across River

With last year’s Bridge Street Corridor Plan, Dublin laid out an ambitious blueprint for a dense, walkable district that would add approximately 8,000 new residential units to the area. City of Dublin Planner Rachel Ray was kind enough to share some thoughts on the recent progress the city has made toward realizing their goals, what we can expect in terms of future development, how transit will fit into their plans, and the importance of a proposed pedestrian bridge across the river.

I don't see anything constructive about it either. I was just agreeing with him that it's not a new trend (which I knew would make some people upset for some reason). Innercore makes some really good points in his posts (not just this thread) and is a very smart individual. Maybe he is making people upset because he is just pointing out the obvious - the fact that the Columbus region is behind in certain things. Anybody who knows anything about Columbus should know that this region historically is an adopter of other cities' practices, not a trend setter, although we are beginning to do more of the latter. I still think there is much room for improvement and I'm not discounting anything progress that has been made up to this point. There is nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious, unless you incessantly do it, at which point people may get the wrong idea about InnerCore.

I would agree, Columbus does not typically set trends. Then again, I'm not so sure this is an automatic negative. Does the city absolutely need to be first in everything to be a quality city moving in a positive direction? IMO, no, absolutely not. Would it be cool if Columbus was on the cutting edge? Sure. Would it be cool (at least for bragging rights if not much else) if the city was in the top 10 fastest growing? Sure. Is the city necessarily lacking if it's not? I don't see any real reason to think so, and that's the issue I take with IC, who seems to think that success is only measurable by being at the top of a ranking or being first in development. It just seems like the ultimate development version of penis envy and I think Columbus is better than that.
