Stay away from R&J Gutters - They were nice enough to replace my gutters for me because they were falling off the house, but decided not to tell me the gutters were fine and the boards behind it needed replaced, then when I called about them falling again they offered a 10% discount to do what they should have suggested be done in the first place instead of replacing all my gutters...

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

We ended up going with JW General Contracting, as several people recommended. They're still finishing up the job, but we've been really impressed with their work so far. ;) Will be sure to share some before & after photos when it's done!

Thanks! Toilet is in and is sooooo much nicer than the old one (even without the leaking the old one needed replaced). I'm several hundred dollars poorer. Since it wasn't the easiest install with my weird old lead pipes and the weird ways the previous one had been put in I figure it was worth it. Susan B rocks for hooking me up with someone who could come today and deal with it.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing was awesome. We've used them several times. Quick & honest. Everything is old and nothing is standard in my house, but they really go the extra mile. They went so far as to find spray paint to make parts visible behind a pedestal sink of a PVC drain trap blend into the other bronze hardware - totally unnecessary (and they didn't charge us for it, either) but the result is really nice!

The base by one of bolts is cracked, so needs to be replaced sooner rather than later anyway. Most definitely not modern plumbing as well.

The last post I could find looking for plumbers was two years old. Anyone have a good recommendation for a plumber? I think the wax seal on my toilet went because my bathroom was just flooded.

Agree with Snarf here... if you have fairly modern plumbing going into the toilet, disconnecting the rig, replacing the ring, & getting going again could be done by you. :)

replacing a wax ring is incredibly basic, literally two bolts.

watch a youtube video or two, go buy a $5 wax ring and DIY? save yourself $50+ :)

Off the top of my head, I'd tell you to check Arts College Prepatory Academy (I don't teach there and have no connection to it). Their graduation rate is 96%, beating local and state. That may be the exception, but it's an intriguing one.

Thanks. That school definitely looks great! Looks like an exception though, sadly.

Does anyone happen to know if there is anything done to schools that get Cs, Ds or Fs? I think if they receive any public money or anything at all (well, really i think no school should be allowed to perform anything but exceptionally, charter or public) they should be doing better than the public schools, not just the same/worse...

I've added the most recent State Ratings (State Report Card) for these schools. Volumes could be written about whether the state evaluates schools correctly, but setting that aside, this is a place to see at a glance what the state thinks about a school (again, not something easy to discern on the actual ODE website).

http://charter.kitoba.com/schools-view.html
http://charter.kitoba.com/schools-view-Columbus.html

As you can see Columbus has 1 "A+" ranked charter school, 4 "A"-ranked charter schools, 9 "B"s, 18 "C"s, 8 "D"s and 12 "F"s.

Statewide, 29 out of 351 schools get "A"s.

EDIT: Just fixed a bug that caused my counts to be off. The above figures should now be correct.
I love the idea of charter schools, but I'm unfamiliar with any specific local ones that are a positive addition to the city and not a financial drain. I'm sure there are some, feel free to tell me which they are!
