The Bottoms is the bottom of the Hill - any west sider Columbus native knows that.......my Grandmother who grew up on Cable Avenue, Central Avenue, and then moved up the hill to Westgate called it the Bottoms - not as a derogatory slanderous moniker, but for what it was - the bottom of the hill.....

I'm all for a "2-C" line between Columbus and Cleveland. Or better still, why not just establish a direct line between Cincy and Cbus, and then continue on to CLE? Nothing personal against Dayton, but factoring it into the 3Cs line at this point adds significantly more time to the run between Columbus and Cincinnati, and thus isn't particularly helpful to the cause. Besides, Dayton might simply be better off as part of an East-West line that connects Columbus with Indianapolis and Pittsburgh.

I have been waiting too many years for Columbus to be connected again by rail to hear "Now is not the time"
When is the time going to be right?
More crappy buses are not the answer.
How about a 2C Corridor from Columbus to Cleveland but high speed and add Cincinnati later...the time is NOW!

from Wiki, this is what I always heard about The Bottoms:

It gets its colorful nickname because much of the land lies below the level of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers, and a floodwall is required to contain the rivers and protect the area from devastating floods. The fertile, low-lying bottom land was ideal for farming, with the river serving as a direct connection to the Ohio River and beyond. (Just to the west of Franklinton is a group of smaller neighborhoods commonly referred to as "The Hilltop.") More recently, "The Bottoms" has been applied to describe the low socioeconomic status and comparatively high crime rate of the area.

So "The Bottoms" is just a nickname? seems like there is some pretty obvious negative connotation there. as in the bottom of the barrel, thee bottom rung of the ladder...

Lauderhaus Says: it’s stunning that he doesn’t know the name of the poorest neighborhood in a city of which he was mayor for 8 years.

Referring to an area by a fairly common nickname does not mean that someone does not know the actual name of that neighborhood. Sounds like you're jumping to conclusions.

Besides... did you read the part about him moving into German Village three decades ago? That neighborhood wasn't the best part of the city back then. I've got a lot of respect for anyone willing to move into any inner city area and help be a part of positive change.

I'm willing to bet that Greg would call New Albany "a very long bike ride".

shoot. i'm not offended. just surprised. calling Franklinton "the Bottoms" in an interview is ... not something you'd expect seasoned politician to do.

Lashutka hardly is a transportation expert. Thousands of motorists daily suffer because of City Hall's incompetence when he was mayor in planning the I-670 bypass to the airport. One exit ramp from I-670 to the airport when at least three are needed. Trying to enter Rt. 315 near White Castle is another major headache as again there is only a one-lane entrance ramp. He sat silently as millions were spent on highway improvements in the northwest while the downtown I-70-71 split remains a killer.

Definitely, Walker. It was particularly refreshing to hear a former mayor -- and a Republican at that -- emphasizing his family's positive experiences while living and growing up near the heart of the city. A shame that he is a member of a dying breed of politician within the GOP, a fact to which he seemed to be alluding. We need people like Lashutka in both parties and beyond who recognize Columbus and its core communities and districts as the driving force behind the region and its future.
