Five Food Trucks to Try at The Park Street Festival

This year marks the seventh installment of the Park Street Festival, Columbus’ unofficial kickoff to the festival season. To mark this occasion, planners of the event have gone above expectations, and beyond what many thought could be possible, to really make this a party to remember.

Instead of one main stage at the intersection of Park and Spruce Streets, this year there will be three, including Goodale and Vine Street Stages, all featuring the best of the local talent scene. There will also be over 25 food trucks at this year’s fest, making it one of the largest food-truck events in the city.

Local favorites like Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Junior’s Tacos, The Paddy Wagon, and Sweet! The Mobile Cupcakery will all be there, but there will also be a few trucks you may not have tried yet that you really should. Here’s a preview of what they have to offer:

    El Tuzo Taco

This fairly new addition to the taco truck scene has been dishing out authentic Mexican dishes at the corners of Fisher and Hague Roads, where they can usually be found. Boasting a menu that features the usual tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, El Tuzo Taco also brings regional favorites to the Columbus market. Like Pambazo, a traditional Mexican bread that’s usually slathered in guajillo sauce and stuffed with papas con chorizo, and the Tuzalad, a meat-heavy salad that also has fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and tortilla chips.

El Tuzo Taco will be situated in front of the Gaswerks Bar during Park Street Festival.

    My Place or Yours

This local we-can-do-it-all caterer specializes in all three daily meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They present those meals mainly in sandwich form, and even though the ingredients seems simple, they’re all locally-sourced, and of the very best quality that can be bought. So try a hometown favorite – the Fried Bologna Sandwich, which comes with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Even traditional ho-hummers like the Chicken Club Sandwich (made with local Ohio chicken and lovingly grilled to succulent doneness) and Grilled Cheese (called “The Clogger” here because it comes with 4 different cheeses, bacon, and tomato)  become almost novel again because of the extraordinary taste of every single component.

My Place or Yours will be set up in front of Brothers Bar & Grill during Park Street Festival.

    Blu Olive

There aren’t many father-daughter-operated food trucks anywhere in the country, and we have one right here in Columbus. Blu Olive has been around for roughly a year, serving Columbus the delicious, traditional Italian fare both owners grew up devouring. Known for their Meatballs, pillows of pork and beef served with an herbaceous marinara sauce over capellini or on sourdough with provolone cheese, Blu Olive has been expanding their repertoire of late. Stop by to try their Bison Burger with grilled onions, cheddar and blue cheeses and Dijon mustard, or the Salmon Sandwich, with grilled fish served on fresh sourdough and finished with lemon aioli.

Blu Olive’s stand will be in front of Brothers Bar & Grill during Park Street Festival.

    Dave’s Caribbean Food

If you’ve ever been to Reggae Night at Skully’s Music Diner, then you may have gotten your after-grub at Dave’s Caribbean Food truck, which proudly serves real-deal Jamaican cuisine. All the regulars are accounted for – and they are very, very good. The Jamaica Jerk Chicken is slightly peppery and packed with flavor, the Stewed Oxtails are meaty and cooked in an addicting brown sauce, and the Curry Goat, with its mixture of spices, masalas, and chilis, will make you lick your fingers over and over again. All of Dave’s meals are served with the Caribbean standard:  rice and red beans and sautéed cabbage.

Dave’s Caribbean Food will be located just in front of the Greek Orthodox Church on Park Street during the festival.

    G’s Cue BBQ

Not much is known about G’s Cue BBQ in Columbus, and that’s to be expected. This food truck is based out of Dayton, and makes the trek for its first visit to the Park Street Festival this year. G’s Cue BBQ was recently a part of the inaugural Food Truck Rally held in Dayton on May 10th, and locals sing praises for its racks of ribs and smoked wings. “Big George” is the pitmaster, and even though he works a 9-5 job, Monday through Friday, it doesn’t mean that he’s not cooking up classic cue for all to enjoy. After all, the motto here is “It’s All That”. You can be the judge of that this weekend.

G’s Cue BBQ will be set up directly in front of the North Market during the festival.
