First Look: The Sycamore

The old Sycamore Cafe in German Village was reborn on Friday night more simply dubbed “The Sycamore”, a new neighborhood-centric bar and restaurant that gives the old dive bar favorite a more upscale approach. The new business is the latest venture from Chris Crader of the nearby Harvest Pizzeria, who’s also working on opening the Harvest Bar & Kitchen in Clintonville.

The Sycamore’s layout takes a shotgun approach where multiple partitions are sectioned off on scaling platforms as you venture backward into the building. Snug booths hug the exposed brick walls while a tight bar and tabletop setup provide easy opportunities for conversing with your neighbors.

For a quick look at the new venue, take a look at the photos below.

    Thanks, Walker!

We live nearby and the place looked packed all weekend, but there were no hours posted on the door. I’m really looking forward to trying it out; I’m sandwiched between it and Skillet.

Tara- Totally agree! GV needs more places like this! Looking forward to adding it to my dinner and brunch rotation. All we need next is healthy Mexican food and some great sushi!

Just wanted to add that when I stopped by on Saturday night, I noticed that it was super quiet outside the venue. Perhaps that will change whenever the patio opens, but it didn’t seem like an ounce of noise was coming out of the building, which should be good news for neighbors worried about an increase in noise in the immediate area.

The charcuterie plate looks good. That’s just the kind of thing I would order to go with drinks.
