The moment you’ve all been waiting for has nearly arrived! The Grass Skirt Tiki Room will be opening their doors at 105 North Grant Avenue to the public on Tuesday, September 25th — after which, the Mai Tais will flow and the Spam Sliders will be served.
The latest addition to the Columbus Food League restaurant lineup echoes the kitschy thematic format of sibling establishments Dirty Frank’s or Surly Girl Saloon, but also promises to pay homage to local legend The Kahiki.
We were able to get a sneak peek inside The Grass Skirt and our photos are shared with you below. Enjoy!

Looks like a great place for a girl’s night out!
Not a beer drinker but if you can mix up something sweet and yummy – drop an umbrella in it and I’m there.
Can anyone who went to the soft opening chime in about the food and drinks?
There is a thread here:

I lived near a Trader Vic’s but never made it in. I will have to check this one out. Probably will make a fun themed hangout for the students in the area.
Never been much of a theme bar type of guy but will definately check this place out. Here’s hoping there are a few fish sandwiches on the menu.
I also don’t see myself hanging out in a theme bar, but it is something different. I imagine the CFL has done their homework.
I get the impression of more a special occasion, date night, visiting relatives type of place. Looks interesting, though I am not an umbrella drink kind of guy. I imagine it will be a hit with the ladies.
Lunch service available anyone know??
It’s hard to tell from most of the photos, but similar to many other CFL restaurants, it’s not a huge space. I agree that a theme bar isn’t necessarily something for everyone to go enjoy multiple times per week, but I don’t think they’ll have trouble filling a smaller space, especially for this hard-to-come-by concept in Columbus.
tolemac – I’ve heard they’re starting with dinner service only before expanding to lunch, similar to the way Jury Room opened.
Love the place! Went to a soft opening night last week. Tons of creativity flowing inside. Food was great! I’m sure it will become a regular haunt for us.
Not just for special occasions. You’ll want to hang out here on a regular basis. It’s like a brief escape to the South Pacific Islands. The only place in Columbus, aside from home bars, where you can get a real Mai Tai and other tasty tropical adult beverages, relax to the sounds of Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Perez Prado, Yma Sumac, and others, and enjoy some tasty Hawaiian surfer food. You’ll get hooked on the Sweet Potato fries and Spam & Swiss sliders!
Yes, you’ll want to have girls’ night out here, or come here for birthdays and anniversaries, but you’ll also want to stop in after work on Hawaiian Shirt Fridays, or anytime you need to get away from ordinary life for awhile.
I will check this place out with my partner, an occasional foo foo drink won’t kill me ;)
I would love to see a menu. Everywhere (including burger king) is pimping sweet potato fries these days. Hoping the CFL has hit one over the top with its menu for such an thematic bar. I think you should throw a slice of pineapple on those sliders!
We used to have a tiki bar in the basement of my sorority. Good times!
I’d love to make this the place I go a few times a week. People say a theme is not needed, but every bar has a theme, sometimes that theme is boring sports bar, sometimes its something unique and fun, like this! I am sure they have beer here too right? Maybe a Kalik or something from the tropics.
I don’t think people should worry whether it is a Cheers type hangout bar or a special occasion type of place, Columbus is big enough for both to work.
Regardless, I want the CFL’s next place to be a Medieval Times. I am surprised Columbus doesn’t have one.
@leftovers – Two fortnights still remain to get thee to the Ren Faire! Huzzah! http://www.renfestival.com
