First-ever Local Foods Week Runs October 3 - 9

I’m behind in my local foods updates but in addition to having two grocery store posts that need to go up, here’s some information about the first-ever Local Matters Local Foods Week, which takes place October 3-9. The week celebrates local food and raises awareness about the need to make healthy, local, sustainability grown food equally accessible to everyone.

Those immersed in the local food movement agree that local food connects us to some of the most important issues of our time: obesity, diabetes, climate change and economic opportunity.

But the truly great thing about local food is there’s room enough at the table for everyone: whether you’re a vegan or omnivore, a local foodie die-hard or a Saturday stroller through the farmers’ market. Wherever you fall, there’s something for you during Local Matters Local Foods Week.

A full schedule of events can be found at www.local-matters.org/local-foods-week and highlights of the week include daily sprout sales: you can purchase a $1 Local Matters’ Sprout to show your commitment to local foods. Crimson Cup Coffee Shop; Cup O’ Joe (Bexley, Clintonville, Easton, German Village, Lennox, Short North); The Greener Grocer; The Hills Market and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream (Grandview, Bexley, Dublin, North Market and Short North). Today Rose made a roasted fall vegetable pasta w/ local sausage, veggies, pasta, cream sauce & smoked gouda.  The drink special is local berry infused vodka topped w/ club soda. Come eat local foods & support Local Matters!

Alex at Dirty Frank’s is working on an all-local veggie alphabet soup, it will be ready to sell tomorrow at lunch. He just got the last bit of Ohio corn from our produce purveyor. When’s the last time you had alphabet soup? With Ohio veggies? Yum!

$1 of every bowl sold goes to Local Matters.
