Election Day open thread – Did you vote today?

By: Brent

I just drove through campus on the way to work. There were about 100 students in line outside the Jesse Owens building waiting to get inside to wait in line some more. It was 7:25 in the morning.

I was NEVER up before 10 when I was in college. Wow.

Starbucks amended the offer to include everyone, not just voters. But I didn’t feel like waiting in line AGAIN.

We had about 1.5 hour wait at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Merion Village. Arrived at 7. The line was a bit shorter when we left, but still probably an hour. I just like voting on election day more. You get to see the people in the neighborhood.

We used to vote at Schiller Rec Center, and never had a wait there. We walked past on the way to work, and sure enough, just a very short line.

  • As I said on the other thread, my wait was relatively short and pleasant (we were keep each other awake until the polls open). This was at the Chambers Road Kroger, so Grandview area voters shouldn’t have a problem.

  • dsigner wrote The posts of people who “stopped by but will come back later” are a bit unnerving. I’d hate to see these people give up altogether if the lines get longer this afternoon. Early voting couldn’t have been easier for me. Everyone should try it next time.

+1 I absolutely agree with you. For example:

Pablo wrote I stopped by the Glen Echo church on Calumet in Clintonville at 8AM – it looked to be about an hour wait. I’ll probably leave work early and vote this afternoon.

Let’s change that to, “I will leave work early and vote…”

Don’t worry, I’m definitely going back. I had a meeting at 9:00 so I didn’t want to be late.

What time are the polls open until? I believe 7 but if you’re in line at 7 they’ll let you vote.

  • At 6:30 this morning, the line wound outside of Thompson Rec back to Fifth Ave. It took a little over an hour to vote.

At 9am, we went past as I took Alec to school. There was no line that I could see.

    A.

Aww, come on. Lines are Fun!!

My wife and I each voted at Dana Elementary. She at 7:30, myself at 8:30. No line whatsoever. Went up, signed in, pushed buttons, got a sticker.

    :D

  • I was in and out of Thompson Rec in 20 minutes. This was around 8:30 AM.

  • I voted last week but my husband voted this AM. There were about 75 people in line at the Northside library @ 6:25 but the line moved quickly. Why didn’t I bring valerian root for lunch???

  • Showed up at 6:30am to the Lutheran church near Morse & High. Waited in line for an hour and a half. Everybody was in good spirits!

  • We walked to our voting location (Alpine school in north Columbus) a little after 7:30 AM, and were home a little over an hour later. The line was a lot shorter when we were leaving.

The worst part was that they kept telling us that we could use paper ballots so we wouldn’t have to wait for one of the 5 voting booths; what they did not tell us was that we had to notify the workers before they checked us in. So I got checked in and asked for a paper ballot, and the woman got pissy and told me “I changed my mind” too late and had to wait for the machines. Grrrrr.

At least there was a bake sale. I am all about the election day bake sale.

  • I just left the same church near Morse and High and we were in and out in 30 minutes and the line was about half as long as when we got there. The best time to vote is in between 10 AM and 12 PM so if you can go to your polling place then it will be quick.

  • AnneD wrote At least there was a bake sale. I am all about the election day bake sale.

Ooo, we didn’t have a bake sale, at least not when I was there, but people were going inside the Kroger for a free Starbucks coffee and walked out with an armload of Krispy Kremes. Oh, and you don’t have to show proof that you voted in order to get the coffee, so it isn’t illegal.

  • lifeontwowheels wrote Took me longer to walk from 8th to King and back than it did to vote.

No issues, I went prepared with my ID and a copy of my lease and a gas bill. A voter just behind me didn’t take this precaution and probably had to head back to grab it.

He could vote a provisional ballot and then bring proper ID to the board of elections within 10 days.

  • buckeyenation wrote There was about an hour and a half wait when I got to the Broad Street Methodist Church around 6:45 am, however, the line was virtually non-existent when I left.

On a side note, I was made to vote Provisionally because of an undisclosed issue. I was told it might have had to do with the fact that an absentee ballot may have been mailed out and unreturned. I was very frustrated as I then had to wait in a seperate line and vote for what may or may not count. I was told “it should”.

    Obama!!!

If you requested an absentee ballot and voted in person on Election Day, you vote a provisional ballot.

I agree. Last week, I picked up my absentee ballot in person at the Board of Elections, filled it out on the sidewalk and returned it to the special mail box in the parking lot of the BOE.

You can vote in about six minutes.

    Polls close at 7:30pm.

  • I just got back from the Columbus Community of Christ (235 East Tompkins Street) were i voted.

walked in 10:20 am and just got home. 10:45 am

  • If you don’t live far from your job you can always take your lunch with you to the polls and eat in line (although I’d take an early or late lunch to avoid everyone else with the bright idea).

WOW that is fast! However I voted at WKHS and it was great It took about 45 min. and we got to sit down the whole time while we waited. I got to know two lovely ladies sitting next to me and talked to my dad a bit as well. (me and my dad don’t say a whole lot to each other on a reg. ) I think that is what voting should be/ but then again i think the world or richard scary is awsome!
