Two local restaurants, Cravings Cafe and Shaw’s Restaurant, recently reopened after extended hiatuses and both boast baked goods that were as eagerly anticipated as the savory offerings. Here’s a look at local restaurants that serve baked goods so good they have their own loyal following.
Acre
2700 N. High St.; 1717 Northwest Blvd.
Basically, no order at Acre is complete without a Sweet Corn Cookie for dessert. If you’re feeling extra hungry, try a Sweet Corn Cookie and a Peanut Butter Brownie.
The Angry Baker
891 Oak St.; 247 King Ave.
This pair of cafes serves a vegetarian-heavy menu of entrees and sandwiches, but (as the name implies) also specializes in pastries and baked goods. Favorites include brioche caramel cinnamon rolls, almond bear claw Danish, and mini banana cream pies.
Cravings Cafe
114 N. Front St.
Regulars were missing the bronuts (brioche donuts) just as badly as the breakfast and lunch sandwiches while this cafe was closed during a relocation. Cravings is back open Downtown on Front Street and, yes, the bronuts are back too. A rotating selection of brioche donuts is served alongside cookies, scones and brioche cinnamon rolls.
Katzinger’s Delicatessen
475 S. Third St.
Katzinger’s specialty desserts are all prepared in the restaurant’s own bakery. Choose from a wide selection of cakes, pies, tortes and tarts, as well as crowd favorite Turtle Brownies, on display each day in the bakery case.
Little Eater
59 Spruce St.
Little Eater’s Buttermilk Cheddar Biscuits slathered in Honeyrun Farm Honey Butter taste great on the side of any of the seasonal vegetable scoops, and the eatery’s chocolate chip cookies or apple cake with oat crumble are the perfect end note. Can’t wait to see the offerings at the soon-to-open Little Eater in Clintonville!
Shaw’s Restaurant
123 N. Broad St. – Lancaster
Shaw’s Restaurant reopened Oct. 4 after a remodeling and now boasts an in-house bakery, Mabel & Grace. Watch for cinnamon rolls, breads, muffins, cakes, and cupcakes, including a chocolate cupcake with marshmallow buttercream frosting.
Skillet
410 E. Whittier St.
Skillet’s menu changes each day, but you’ll always find fantastic baked treats under the Wake Ups & What Nots heading. The Griddled Cinnamon Rolls served warm with buttermilk bourbon caramel and maple icing are most famous, but the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Crumb Cake is pretty great too.
Sweet Carrot

Does the very name Sweet Carrot automatically inspire a craving for carrot cake? You’re not alone. And luckily, the Grandview restaurant is happy to help satisfy your cravings — order a carrot cake slice, a carrot cake pop, or a roasted carrot and coconut cookie to go with your smothered corn cake.
The Table

The Table’s baked-in-house goodies tempt from the moment you walk into this cozy Italian Village spot. They’re on display along the side counter on vintage glass cake servers. Try fluffy cakes by the slice, cookies, or tarts made with seasonal flavors.
Zoe Cafe

Duck into Zoe Cafe anytime for a quick pick-me-up: coffee with a Caramel Roll. The baked fresh pastry is topped with house-made salted bourbon caramel.
