Columbus, America’s test market, is once again walking a new path for the sake of the country. A store design pioneered and perfected at Easton Town Center is being rolled out nationally by DSW Shoes.

Every new DSW store will have the Easton look. The first ones opened last month in suburban Cincinnati, Chicago, Dallas and Houston.

The first DSW store opened in Dublin in 1991. Back then, the business specialized in closeout and out-of-season merchandise at discount prices.

  • I don’t think I’ve seen the DSW at Easton, but now I want to go!

  • I’m not a big shoe shopper anyway, so I’m surely nowhere near their target consumer, but I will say DSW has always turned me off in the past – looking like one big warehouse firesale as opposed to an actual store. I always just took that as a part of them focusing on closeout/retired product, but this sounds like a definite improvement.

Heh, as they say, “that’s not a bug, that’s a feature.”

I’ve been a pretty regular shopper at both Filene’s Basement and DSW for years. Live poor, look rich. 8)

  • I’ve been to the store and it’s awesome! Way better than their other warehouse-y stores.

  • So they remodeled the existing store, right?

I usually hit Filene’s Basement so I can check out shoes and clothes in one go….

  • Yours truly works at this “wonderful” place, otherwise known to quite a few of those who work their as the “7th level/circle of hell!”

  • You mean the new place, or the old Filene’s/DSW double-operation?

  • Anne & I stopped in the new store tonight. I guess it looks nicer than before. Really doesn’t matter a whole lot to me personally, because if I can get a nice pair of shoes for cheaper there than somewhere else it doesn’t really matter what color the walls are painted.

  • Yeah, I work at the Easton store. I have been there for a little over two years. You know what, I think I saw our fearless leader, Walker, and Anne, there last night. I was the cashier who checked your shoe size and bagged up your excellent purchase! :o

  • Ha! I was sort of wondering if you were working yesterday, but had no idea who you were, and I’d feel embarrassed asking every guy in the store “Are you columbusguy20?”

Anyway, was nice to half-meet you then! Hope to see you at a CU Meetup sometime! :D

  • this just comes off creepy to me for some reason

  • Yes. Because everyone who uses the internet = CREEPS.

    well duh……

  • I wasnt sure if that was him or not because the only picutre I had seen of you was on the messageboards. I dont think its creepy. I kind of half-knew you because of the message boards and what not. Now if you were a complete stranger that would be a different story.

I said to myself “now there goes a nicely dressed young couple. what in the hell are they doing shopping in this hell hole?!” Im only saying that because I dont find a lot of shoes for me there because I am usually a size 12; but I dont even buy a lot of shoes to begin with.

But it was nice to half meet you and your girlfriend/fiance/wife, as well. I will try to come to a meetup now that school is almost over for the quarter at OSU!

  • It seems like for the last year or so I’ve not been able to find sneakers I like at DSW as much as I used to. Maybe I’m just not that into the current styles or something, which is why I bought three pairs of my current favorite Steve Madden sneakers so that I can wear them for awhile before I find something else I like.

But I’ve always found decent dress shoes at DSW, which is why we stopped in last night. My current pair I’ve been wearing for a year straight pretty much every day and the soles are pretty thin. I thought about just getting them resoled at our favorite Enchanted Shoe Repair shop, but I figured it was time for a style change as well.

Needless to say, I’m going to go get this new pair extra-soled before I start wearing them so they won’t wear out as fast. if anyone else is in the market for nice leather shoe repairs, cleanings, or resolings, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. They’ve always done a good job for us, and cheap too. If you’ve already invested at least $100 in a pair of shoes or boots you like and you’re not tired of the style yet, they’ll make them look like new for $30. Well worth it!

    :D
