A little over a year ago, several community leaders launched a non-profit organization called Friends of the Drexel, Inc. to help support the historic Drexel Theatre located in Bexley. Today, Friends of the Drexel has announced that they are purchasing the Drexel Theatre itself and bringing operations under the arm of the nonprofit. The Columbus Association of the Performing Arts (CAPA) will be managing the theatre.
“We have received tremendous community support since forming our organization last year,” said Richard A. Stoff, founding Chairman of Friends of the Drexel. “The Drexel is a well-loved, cultural jewel, and with this new business model and the expertise of CAPA, we are confident it can be a sustainable provider of unique arts content for many years to come.”
The managing agreement with CAPA takes effect as of today, and the leadership at CAPA will begin studying potential technology and aesthetic improvements to the theatre space. Former Drexel owner Jeff Frank will continue to serve as the Operations Manager at The Drexel.
“The Friends of the Drexel are working hard to assure the historic theatre will continue to positively contribute to the development of Main Street and entertain the citizens of Bexley and central Ohio,” said Bexley Mayor John Brennan.
