Suburban condos gaining cachet

BY JIM WEIKER

Gahanna is better known as a comfortable, middle-class bedroom community than a million-dollar, high-style destination. But the Residences of Creekside just might change that.

The condominiums represent the third phase of the $60 million Creekside development in downtown Gahanna. (Yes, there is a downtown in Gahanna, and it's a very pleasant one at that.)

Creekside getting busy, council members say

Creekside appears to be weaving into the fabric of Gahanna, in both the social and business sense.

Dave Samuel told fellow Gahanna City Council members Monday night that Creekside was filled with activity over the weekend -- from Herb Days to the Concerts at Creekside. The weather didn't help, he said, "but I'm looking forward to the Jimmy Buffett clone band for next weekend."

Parking in the Creekside garage is now less expensive.

Gahanna City Council on Monday cut the prices for parking after reviewing the first year of its operations. In Creekside's inaugural year, the garage brought in nearly $200,000 in revenue.

Mo Dioun, owner of the Stonehenge Co. and the major developer of the long-awaited Creekside development, looks at his project with a long view.

Dioun's company owns Creekside's center three buildings, around the fountain area. He is selling the condominiums, called The Lofts at Creekside, and renting the space to retail stores on the ground floors of the buildings.

sundown wrote The parking at Creekside is a big mess. One of the reasons Seekers couldn't float was that there wasn't really anywhere to park if you wanted to run in, get a cup-o-joe and a snack, and head back out. Except for the few streetside slots, you really had to park on a sidestreet or under the buildings to stay....

Went up there with a friend and we easily found a spot. But then we have no problem walking a block or two. Lazy Americans.

I can only say something about the coffeeshop. It felt like a Kittles furniture show room and there was a table with a bunch of beads, it was just weird. Not an attractive coffeeshop vibe, so I can't say I'm at all surprised they closed.
