THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Public officials and others are working to add several hundred hotel rooms that they say Columbus needs to be a contender for marquee events that bring millions of dollars into the city.

Proposals being considered would involve expanding the Hyatt Regency Hotel adjoining the convention center or building an upscale hotel across High Street from the center, on land controlled by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority.

  • Stewz wrote I doubt that NW is going to build another tower there ( I could be completely wrong though). I work there and there are quite a few open areas still in the buildings downtown that NW currently has. Also, they just built some ( I believe ) 6 story buildings just next to BDs Mongolian BBQ. Also, I know that they we still have some open spaces in the buildings in Dublin and an open space in a building in Hilliard. If NW does own that parcel I really wish it could be capped as Walker stated but put a hotel above it. The Convention Center and Hotel in Philly has a train station underneath it and it is great to just hop on the train at the airport and ride on in. Very convenient.

I was talking about the parcel at PID: 010-057593 that has High St. on the east, nationwide to the south, and front st. to the west. According to one of the heads of NRI at an AIA meeting a question about NRI having a transit center was brought up as a use for the space. The response was that parcel was planned to be used for a second Nationwide tower. (approx. 40 stories as a match to the main tower to the south) I assuming they are holding on that piece of land for the long term.

  • No matter what is on top, a train station could be built underneath.
