Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace Opens This Week

After over a year of delays and setbacks, Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace is scheduled to officially open on Wednesday, July 1st at 4pm. Hot dog fans will be treated to a variety of menu choices with toppings ranging from Sriracha Slaw to Beef Brisket to Kim Chee to Indian Mango Chutney.

Drinks include Frostop Root Beer, Cherry and Lime Slushies, a variety of specialty draught beers and one-of-a-kind cocktails.

The interior of the restaurant has been completely revamped, and includes a bright red-and-yellow color palette. In the photos below, you can see that the walls are adorned with paintings by artist Thom Lessner.

We have PDF files of the menus posted up here: drink menu / food menu. Dirty Frank’s is located at 248 South Fourth Street and will be open every day of the week from 11am to 2am. More info will be online soon at DirtyFranksColumbus.com.

Yay, I was hoping it wouldn’t happen while I was on vacation.  I will eat at Dirty Franks Wed, Thurs, and Fri before I leave, ha!  Dreams about slushies are inevitable now.

How much seating is there inside, Walker/Liz?

It’s a fairly small space. Similar to Betty’s, or maybe Surly Girl without the back room. Liz or Harold can answer better than me, but I’m going to take a guess and say it seats maybe 12 at the bar and another 40 at tables?

Oh wow, that’s bigger than I thought it was going to be. That’s great.

    Thanks!

Queen bee was tiny.  so really it comes down to how they developed the space.  also if they were able to use the upstairs.  curious about a patio on that street as well.  guess we’ll have to see. also, this will be a lunch place for me, so hoping for lunch hours soon. (edit, my bad. looks like they are starting off with lunch hours now, that will work out great!)

would it be wrong to camp out in front of the door?

    Walker Says:

I could be overestimating on the seating. Was hard to judge in there yesterday with most of the tables still shoved into the corners. ;)

I think it’s going to feel very different from the other Lessner joints though. The table seating is all standard height, and not high “barstool” type table seating like you find at Betty’s, Surly Girl, and in the back of Tip Top.

Hello, I’m a long time ‘lurker’ who is super excited about trying out Dirty Franks…but I have a question…Dirty Franks is listed in the CORA restaurants supporting Operation Feed, which is tomorrow June 30, which is a day before the official DF’s opening on July 1.  If I can get a Sriracha Slaw Dog tomorrow, I’m there, otherwise I’ll wait till Wednesday.  Thanks!

K+M, I think they were originally hoping to be open by tomorrow, but got delayed a bit. So I think we’ll still have to wait. :(

I see a lot of Chicago love in this place because the dogs are from there, that’s kinda of a turn off for me.  Hope to see some Tribe love going on.

lifeliberty - the Clippers are represented in there.

    Walker Says:

I think the Chicago fandom comes from Liz being from there, and a lot of the Philly stuff comes from Thom Lessner (the artist) who lives there now. I noticed some great Clippers and CPD memorabilia and photos on the wall too. It should be a nice mix. :D

Also, I was very excited to see that the little curtain above the service window was made out of an MLB bedspread from the early 80s that I had on my bed as a kid.

    mstimple Says:

Good to see, hope she is successful. Just one question though.  If Ms. Lessner’s various concepts become too successful (I hope they do), how long will it take before I start hearing the usual anti-corporate, anti-chain liberal bull-s$#t that I often hear about directed towards her enterprises like I often hear when we get a whiff of future improvements/developments in the area that involve anything related to the dreaded “c” word.  ‘Every revolution eats its children’

    Core_Models Says:

The big difference is Liz’s personal commitment to community though.  Her involvement in CORA, Dine Originals…not to mention her engaging every other initiative that comes down the pike that could benefit Columbus…set her apart a bit, at least in my mind.

    Walker Says:

Plus, as long as all of your restaurants have different names, different concepts, and different co-owners, you don’t really have a “chain” on your hands, right? ;) I would imagine that Jeni’s is going to face the chain stigma sooner than Liz’s places will. And I think it will be minimized for them too. There are quite a few chains that seem to rise above being “just a chain” either with a higher standard of company ethics, a superior food product, or both.
