Dirty Frank’s Hot Dogs opening downtown in July

Dirty Frank’s Hot Dogs, a casual hot doggery and neighborhood bar is set to open mid-July in Downtown Columbus, Ohio bringing another fun and affordable lunch option to downtown workers and dwellers. Partners Elizabeth Lessner and Harold LaRue look to bring quality hot dogs and some whimsical sizzle to downtown Columbus.

“Columbus has hot dog envy. People visit New York and Chicago and eat at some of the finest restaurants in the world but come back raving about the hot dogs,” says Lessner, current CEO of Betty’s, Surly Girl Saloon and Tip Top Kitchen and native of Chicago, famed for their outstanding “slap your forehead” scrumptious red hots.

Dirty Franks will feature delicious all-beef Vienna franks, Polish sausages, Kielbasa and Tofu dogs served in steamed poppy seed buns topped with fresh ingredients prepared to order. Sides will include Corn on the Cob with Chipotle Butter, Sriracha Cole Slaw, Roasted Sport Pepper Mac ‘n Cheese, India Pale Ale Dredged Onion Rings, and Hot Dog Cornbread. Salads and a few casserole dishes will also be available.

To complement your dog, locally brewed Frostop Root Beer on draught, plenty of Pabst Blue Ribbon and the house specialty drink, Dirty Frank’s Bloody Mary which contains Sport-Pepper Infused Vodka with Celery Seed Bloody Mary mix.

Desperately looking forward to Dirty Frank’s opening, but it sure doesn’t look like it’s going to happen in July. Sadness! Hopefully it’ll still be open before the end of summer. Anyone have news?

See lizless’s post on page two of the linked thread above. As of July 16, they’re battling through some construction and permit delays and hashing out the menu.

Liz on Myspace wrote It’s coming along, just more slowly than we’d hoped. We are four months behind schedule right now, not entirely unusual in my business. We hope for an October opening. Construction began last month and the place is gutted to the studs right now. Quickly the space will transform into a hot dog palace of epic proportions now that the demo is complete. Until then, thanks for your love and patience.

    Hey Dog Lovers,

Sorry for the delayed response regarding status of Dirty Frank’s Hot Dog Palace; as you can imagine, we’ve been busy ironing-out countless details involved in making this delicious dog-dream happen.

    Here’s where we’re at:

The place has been gutted. Nothing remains of the old Queen Bee interior; bar gone, booths gone, 17 layers of nasty carpet gone, all non-load-bearing walls gone…you get the idea. We are renovating, completely, the space. New bar, new kitchen, new flooring, a second bathroom, etc.

The engineering drawings are being finalized and will be submitted for permits within two weeks.

In the meantime, we’re busy locating and acquiring equipment, meeting with our vendors, and working on the menu while Thom Lessner adds his creative genius to the design/decor.

We are serious about these dogs, people! Next week finds our expedition party in Chicago for some tasty, umm…”fact-checking” and research; Columbus’ own Jim Ellison (CMH Gourmand) has been incredibly helpful in preparing our group. In addition to stuffing our faces and taking copious notes, we intend to meet with the Vienna Beef folks!

We’ve reserved the domain names dirtyfrankscolumbus.com and dirtyfrankshotdogs.com and expect to have at least a splash page up this week showcasing some of Thom Lessner’s hard work.

Thanks for your enthusiasm and patience,

    Harold LaRue
