Dirty Frank’s Hot Dogs, a casual hot doggery and neighborhood bar is set to open mid-July in Downtown Columbus, Ohio bringing another fun and affordable lunch option to downtown workers and dwellers. Partners Elizabeth Lessner and Harold LaRue look to bring quality hot dogs and some whimsical sizzle to downtown Columbus.
“Columbus has hot dog envy. People visit New York and Chicago and eat at some of the finest restaurants in the world but come back raving about the hot dogs,” says Lessner, current CEO of Betty’s, Surly Girl Saloon and Tip Top Kitchen and native of Chicago, famed for their outstanding “slap your forehead” scrumptious red hots.
Dirty Franks will feature delicious all-beef Vienna franks, Polish sausages, Kielbasa and Tofu dogs served in steamed poppy seed buns topped with fresh ingredients prepared to order. Sides will include Corn on the Cob with Chipotle Butter, Sriracha Cole Slaw, Roasted Sport Pepper Mac ‘n Cheese, India Pale Ale Dredged Onion Rings, and Hot Dog Cornbread. Salads and a few casserole dishes will also be available.
To complement your dog, locally brewed Frostop Root Beer on draught, plenty of Pabst Blue Ribbon and the house specialty drink, Dirty Frank’s Bloody Mary which contains Sport-Pepper Infused Vodka with Celery Seed Bloody Mary mix.

I laugh because group dynamic here that has already declared Frank’s “the greatest place ever” before it opens.
liz creates culture.
she makes things that make where we live substantially more significant.
she has done this several times.
what more do you want? the woman has earned her position.
Yea, what restaurant do you own?
A friend of mine and I were just discussing hot dogs and he said up in AK they caramelize the onions in Cola.
Sounds brilliant.
Sounds brilliant.
Oh YUM!
ZHC, finally got a chance to stop by your store today. Now I know where to get my gatorade for the ride home.
Hey thanks for coming in, glad we had something of use to you.
I must have missed you when you came in. I had some product pickups to do yesterday. Garden season has been nuts so far this year, mother nature has been kind to us retailers so far.. :D Maybe next time then lifeontwowheels.
This Hot dog controversy is mildly amusing in atypical way. Usually the arguments I’ve heard about hot dogs deal with their supposed contents are, not the places they are served. :)
I really don’t care about the “fight” as funny as it may be. I think we are losing sight of what’s important here. It’s hot dogs ppl, this is a crucially underserved demand in downtown! Surely we can all agree the hot dog devouring demographic is better off with having more choice regardless of your personal beefs with who does the serving! It’s one more item off the downtown checklist for amenities. :)
Sounds brilliant.
Oh YUM!
+1
Brainwashed, huh? With such nuanced and evenhanded criticisms of the people posting here, you wonder why some might sense a whiff of bitterness or assume slander as a motivation?
C’mon, dude, nobody would bat an eyelash if you simply discussed what you ate at Liz’s joints and why it was or wasn’t appealing (like, oh, everyone else does when they post their restaurant experiences)… but instead you just definitively dismiss them all by saying that they ‘suck.’ Again, just more substance-free pettiness.
Were you posting ‘as a person’ when you responded to someone who complained about your restaurant? Easily linkable examples of this exist.
*crickets chirping*
OMG!!! Somebody is totally gonna sell a five-dollar tube of meat within city limits!!!
Alert the patent attorneys!!!
Hot dogs are frigging delicious. They don’t cost a lot. They have been around since God was a boy. Liz is sweet and awesome. End of story.
This is so typical of CU: trying to twist someone’s words into something they didn’t say.
I never expected to be completely anonymous…I used a derivative of my real name because I am who I am…and yeah…if someone really needed to put “2 and 2 together” it qualifies as a stalkin’. ;)
I readily explained why I thing Tip Top /Surly girl suck IMO and my reasons (bad food/bad service, etc) were written off as I am some jealous, bitter dood.
Sorry. Not true.
Just because my opinion goes against the grain doesn’t mean it’s based on professional jealousy. Nobody here knows me. I am not a professional restaurantuer…I retired from an IT career to run the place: it’s my hobby.
Anyhoo…the mob here loves to jump on “outsiders” and dismiss opinions outside the clique. That’s fine. I can take it….but I wish you all would be more honest. Don’t you think that it is within the realm of possibility that someone could have an experience different that your own???
“the mob”
“cliques”
“outsiders”
:?
Only speaking for myself here – In the many years I’ve participated on this website I’m proud to say I’ve never felt I was or had to be in any type of “clique” to express my opinions properly.

I agee wholeheartedly.
You speak for yourself.
I don’t think I have ever had a bad experience at a Cameron Mitchell restaurant. .
Oh I have. it will be a VERY long time before I go back to Cap City Diner on Olentangy. Went there one night with gf and i got the salmon over rice. spent most of the night throwing up. not pleasant.
don’t think I’ll be eating salmon anytime soon either.
i didn’t call and complain, I’m not one to do that, I just won’t go back for a bit, if ever. and when i do, I definitely won’t be getting the salmon.
I guess that’s what I get for trying to eat healthy. eh, bulimia= weight loss so i guess some good came of it
One of the reasons I like Liz is how she does handle the criticism that does sometimes get posted. CU members have been very critical of the food served at Tip Top. The Reuben is one of the worst I’ve ever eaten. She engaged in the discussion and it made people feel as though their opinions were heard.
It’s that kind of community participation that has helped earn the respect of people around here. Plus she is opening another location downtown which garners a lot of support for that reason alone.
That’s why I’ll support her efforts. She has made herself part of the community here. She is not the only proprietor here who has huge support from Columbus Underground members.
Well, if you want a realistic and critical comparison?
1. Liz supports Columbus overall. She’s vocal and active in making her presence as a business owner important in the actual community. Liz has been behind virtually every initiative that can make Columbus better with her mouth, money, and time. People, particularly those on a civic minded website, tend to respect that.
2. Liz hasn’t taken time out of her day to slam a single competitor on this website, not once that I can remember. Particularly not out of the safety of anonymity as a restaurant owner herself, where people may actually derive some ulterior motive.
3. Liz supports things that are important to C/U readers…2 wheel deals, sponsoring events like Wench tastings and C/U meetups, and has basically done what a shrewd (or genuinely interested) business owner might in an effort to win over a substantially vocal group of restaurant or bar critics.
You’ve slammed everything from OSU football to competing restaurants to the streetcar in an effort to…well, actually I have no idea.
Regardless, I’ve been in your joint…8 bucks is too much for pitas and hummus or potato skins. 10 bucks is too much for taco salad. On top of that, the food just doesn’t impress.
I’m glad you’re self-described as successful, I wish success to everyone…but make no mistake, Liz isn’t just lucky nor is she pandering. She doesn’t have a handful of packed spots on a Friday night because “C/U people dig her”, but because she’s got her ear to what people want and caters to it.

Oh and let me be very clear here. I agree 100% wiith your post and have mad love for her accomplishments (and Betty’s. LOVE Betty’s…may go today as it is hot turkey sandwich weather).
I am allowed to not like those other places.
“Just sayin’”
I am allowed to

That’s weird…
Less stalking.
More hot doggery.

Thanks for proving my point by omitting the very next sentence:
“I never expected to be completely anonymous…I used a derivative of my real name because I am who I am”
Like I said…CUers enjoy picking thinngs apart, quoting out of context and twisting words. Some (like you) more childishly that others.
“the mob”
Get it straight… it’s the Ilk.
