The regional Top|Somm competition for the Great Lakes area took place in Chicago last night, and as tweeted live via @LisaTheWaitress, Columbus competitor Chris Dillman took first place. Dillman beat out seven other Sommeliers and will go on to compete in the National competition in Napa, California in August.

In case you have newer been in the “biz” and have no idea what this is (like me).
Sommelier – a waiter, as in a club or restaurant, who is in charge of wines.
Heh. I’d probably go with the Wikipedia definition, which is a little more robust:
A sommelier (pronounced /sÊŒmÉ™lˈjeɪ/, French pronunciation: [sÉâ€mÉ™lje]), or wine steward, is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, commonly working in fine restaurants, who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food matching. The role is more specialized and informed than that of a wine waiter.
