DareDevil Dogs Restaurant Launching in November Near OSU

The tiny restaurant space located at 1437 North High Street has sat empty for nearly a year following the closing of the Commonwealth Sandwich Bar last November. But this November, the spot will see new life as DareDevil Dogs opens their doors to the public.

DareDevil is a new hot dog shop with a chef-created menu that will utilize locally sourced sausages, produce and other ingredients. Co-owner Mike Gadd has spent some time developing the restaurant’s menu along with other owners Bill Garland and Tomos Mughan. According to a press release issued last night, the team “hopes to change how Columbus views the hot dog.”

Customers will be able to building their own hot dogs, choosing from a beef dog, pork brat, chicken sausage or vegan dog. Bun options include split-top, brioche, pretzel bun and gluten free. Some creative combinations can result from those selections and toppings, according to information provided by the restaurant’s owners:

“A few of the daring options are the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sausage with Sriracha-Orange Buffalo Sauce, Shaved Celery, Red Onion, and Blue Cheese Aioli, on a Brioche Bun and a Pork Brat with Crispy Shaved Brussels Sprouts, Granny Smith Apples, Shaved Celery, Honey-Whole Grain Aioli, Split Top Bun.”

Pricing is expected to range from $4 to $9 depending upon the style and the toppings selected.

The small venue will remain small, seating only 14 people, which makes Dirty Frank’s seem gigantic in comparison. The restaurant will serve from the counter in a fast-casual style, and will continue to service next-door bar Village Idiot through a connecting service window, just as Commonwealth did prior.

After opening on November 7th, restaurant hours will be Monday through Thursday 11am to 10pm, Friday 11am to 3am, Saturday 12pm to 3am and Sunday 4pm to 10pm. Hours will be adjusted for OSU Football game days and other large events.

The team at DarDevil Dogs hopes to add a delivery service for the OSU and Short North neighborhoods sometime in late Spring 2015.
