CU Podcast #27: Local Matters & Greener Grocer
In this week’s podcast we sit down with Michael Jones, Executive Director of Local Matters and owner of The Greener Grocer located in the North Market. Michael discusses several of the local food programs that these entities provide to Central Ohio, as well as some of the changing national trends in sustainability, urban farming, and the growing awareness of the ecological impacts caused by our global food system.

Nice podcast! These guys do great work (a not entirely unbiased conclusion, admittedly, but an honest one nonetheless).
Have been looking around for info to point people toward on Local Food(s?) Week… Oct 3-9, the podcast said. The LM website was hit or miss last I checked and didn’t have info about it, and Google was no help either. I’ve got some info but if anyone knows of a comprehensive webpage….

Glad you enjoyed it. ;) I assumed that the info about Local Food Week would be up on the Local Matters website in due time since it’s still over a month away. I guess if it doesn’t appear we can post the details up here, or direct people to any other websites where the info can be found.

We’re finalizing details of the week with the steering committee in the next several days, then you’ll see something on the site. (After Fresh Connect and other cool site features go live next week, we’ll post a save the date about it.)

Thanks, Walker for the chance to sit down and share more of the story of Local Matters. It’s a story whose time has come. I do hope the Columbus Underground audience will visit our site and choose to become one of our 1000 Friends of Local Matters. We can’t do what we do without the financial and volunteer support of our community! There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities available during Local Matters “Local Foods Week”. Details are on the way!

Hey there. Great interview. But let me remind you that localfoodcolumbus has been blogging on local food issues for over a year. They haven’t focused on restaurant reviews as much as what affects the availability and cost of local food production. Please check it out for a look at the big picture!
