Columbus Crew SC managed to unexpectedly snatch victory away from New York Red Bulls with a last gasp goal from Ola Kamara as the rematch of the 2015 Eastern finals ended in a slightly less-exciting 1-1 draw at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday night.
Bradley Wright-Phillips put Red Bulls ahead shortly after half-time with a diving header and the visitors spent most of the game looking like they would ride out with the win as Columbus looked lacking in answers on how to break the NY defense.
Crew SC were again missing the spark in the final third as Mo Saeid again provided little creativity, while Ola Kamara was left to feed on scraps for the majority of the game.
Kamara’s last second equalizer gave Crew SC a result that looks good on paper against 3rd placed Red Bulls, but questions and concerns will still be raised over the teams under-performing offense and lack of spark that saw them push for the MLS Championship with almost the same squad from last year.
Next up are a couple of away days for Columbus, starting with Kansas City next Sunday evening.
