By: Walker

According to this announcement over on BlackAndGoldStandard.com, Stadia Magazine has ranked Crew Stadium as the #1 Most Notable Sports Stadium built in the past decade. Crew Stadium was picked over new stadiums in London, Toronto, Japan and Germany due to its significance in introducing soccer to US audiences and paving the way for additional new soccer-specific stadiums.

  • Good for the Crew. It is about the sport and the fans. Keeping it simple is something I think would help the Nationwide/Blue Jackets issues.

  • I wonder if Jerry Jones is jealous of the late, great Lamar Hunt.  Hunt was able to get his stadium 5 spots higher on the list at 1/50th of the cost.  Then again, Jones’ taj mahal did host the NBA All-Star game….

  • chalk up another one for the rankings.

  • Nice recognition amongst our peers in the soccer field. There was no mention of  the Crew winning the MLS Cup a few years ago by Mr. Nuttall, so it must be common knowledge in his field. I think that would have slightly enhanced his article, and would endeared him to Crew fans wherever they may be.

  • With all of the Arena District nonsense over the last year and a half, it’s great that Crew Stadium gets some deserved recognition for being the landmark that it is.  And, even better, right in time for the first kick of the season on the 9th.  Get your butts to the stadium, people!  Get involved with the supporters groups!  Get Massive!  Go to massivecityffc.com and follow the links for Crew info, Crew tickets, and info on the supporters groups.

  • Noteworthy: No mention made of the concert stage addition at the north end, and it was conspicuously missing from the photo.  Maybe they awarded the honor based on what the stadium meant when it first opened?  I know Dallas’ new pitch has a similar stage setup, so I’d think that feature would also qualify as “influential” in the design of the newer MLS pitches.
