Crew Drops Ball to NYC FC in First Home Game Loss of Season

A late second-half collapse from Columbus Crew SC saw New York City FC come back from 1-2 down to win 3-2 and hand Columbus its first home defeat of the season at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday night.

Maxi Moralez opened the scoring for the visitors early in the first half before Federico Higuain levelled with a brilliantly taken half-volley that flew past NYCFC ‘keeper Sean Johnson.

Crew SC got off to the perfect second-half start as NYCFC gifted the home team with a goal as a defensive mix-up ended with the ball at the feat of Ethan Finlay, whose crossed ball was smartly dummied by Higuain and Ola Kamara was on hand to fire home from close range.

Yangel Herrera equalized in the 64th minute with a header that slipped past Crew SC ‘keeper Zach Steffen and in the 76th minute Crew SC had their own defensive disaster that NYCFC’s Jack Harrison capitalized on to give the visitors the lead that they’d hold to take all three points from the game.

Columbus Crew SC will look to bounce back next Saturday when 2016’s bad apple Kei Kamara and his New England Revolution visit MAPFRE.
