Kikyo used to be a very solid Japanese restaurant 4-5 years ago, then they sold. The few times I’ve been back since they sold were very disappointing.

I haven’t tried BaSho since they sold either.. I’m a little afraid to.. I used to have a love hate relationship with the place.. It’s the closest thing we have to an izakaya in Columbus, and I always loved going there.. but the baba that ran the place was a bit of a be-otch.. towards the end she was nicer to me, but I think by then I was paid better and dropping more cash :-) I haven’t been back since they sold and the food was so good there that I’d hate to have that memory shattered.

I hear Yoshi’s is pretty good up off on Frantz. I used to go there a lot when I worked up by Tuttle, but that was years ago too..

To be honest I get most of my Japanese food when I travel to the coasts :-p

That’s true. Generally they’ll have 2 or 3 options for sushi and/or sashimi per evening… nothing like a full sushi menu.

Last time I was at Kihachi I asked about omakase, and they said to call at least a day in advance.

I cannot stand the sushi at Haiku. Meeting friends or the patio is the only reason I go. I don’t even order anymore because I just get irritated.

Does anyone know where Johnny the sushi chef went? He would make up rolls and always have hyper fresh toro.

However, whenever I think or write about sushi, my favorite roll EVER is the 2004 roll at Kooma. AMAZING. If you go to Kooma and try this and their sunomono you will see Kooma is the best. I have to be honest and say I have not tried the fancy place in Dublin….what is the name Merc?

I have eaten Sushi at most places here in columbus and by some of the top sushi chefs….actually we should be more specific and say the name of the chef becuase Johnny who used to be at Sapporo Wind and then went to House of Japan for awhile and now I have lost track of him…amazing sushi chef.

My ex husband and I made it part of our life work to try every Sushi spot when we traveled and where we lived. So far, I will have to say a restaurant in Maui has the best Sushi of the places I have eaten in the United States. I have gone to tons of places in Ohio. Beluga is amazing. Let’s all go on a CU field trip??? The ambience, quality and cocktails are awesome.
