Conveyor-belt-driven sushi, other Japanese fare are part of Zen

Mobilized sushi — among other Japanese offerings — will serve as the attraction of Zen, which soon will open across from the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The raw fish will be propelled around the sushi bar via a conveyor belt, the first of its kind in Columbus. Various forms of sushi will be placed on different-colored plates — red ($2), blue, ($3) and black ($4) — which customers will pluck off the assembly line. Servers will then tally the colored discs.
The menu is all Japanese; there will be no creative takes on pan-Asian cuisine.

Zuppa on Northwest closed? When?
Um, Kikyo is near Upper Arlington.

Much better than that crap hole in the wall known as Kooma
Joev! You are quick out of the holster today
ZUPPA is fine. Enzo is imagining a better world for herself. Personally, I like those chicken salad sandwiches too much to buy into this world.
Whew! I was imagining a world without the Turkey Philly…
I suppose technically the Zuppa on Northwest did close, but that was the one in Grandview, and it happened three years ago.
Zuppa on Northwest closed? When?
Zuppa closed awhile ago. Didn’t Cafe DaVinci reopen in the former Zuppa space? Or am I thinking of two different storefronts over there?
Crap hole in the wall?? But I *like* Kooma? (Or did the laughy face reference some joke I missed?)

That was on Tremont…they moved a block over to Northwest.
OMG MERC KOOMA IS THE VERY BEST SUSHI IN COLUMBUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The very best sushi in Ohio is found at Beluga in Cincinnati. Divine.
Those places are not within walking distance of my residence. I want to walk to Sushi.
Can I just tell you what I love so much…..walking to dinner or breakfast or anything…I hate driving and I do not really want to bike near cars. I love love love to walk.

Then open this sushi shop yourself, like TigerTree and his coffee shop idea for Westgate.

Beluga is within walking distance of my parents’ house. Therefore, I win the internet.
But I’ve never been to Beluga, although we used to go to that building fairly often when it was Zino’s in the 1970s-80s. I still miss that Hungarian chicken soup they had at Zino’s. Zuppa should buy the recipe and start selling that at their location on Northwest…
Been there a few times and no, no, it is not. Probably in the top five though.
Crap hole in the wall?? But I *like* Kooma? (Or did the laughy face reference some joke I missed?)I might have been trolling a bit. I caught an Enzo this big. And I’m still rather sure she hasn’t been to Kikyo, Kihachi or Akai Hana. I think Otani (for the atmosphere) and Mr. Sushi over in Gahanna round out my top 5.
Now that I can agree with.
I do need to try Kikyo though…
enzo, given your serious effort for a humble and grateful worldview, from what position of authority do you comment on “the best” sushi in columbus or ohio?
I still need to try Mr. Sushi and Kikyo, but with that caveat, my top 5 would include (not presently ordered):
Akai Hana
Sushi En
Kooma
Shoku (though I haven’t been in years)
… and either Restaurant Hama or Otani, depending on if I was more up for atmosphere or quality. Probably have to give the edge to Otani, b/c Restaurant Hama is a) crazy expensive and b) sporting some kind of diner atmosphere… but the sushi was very good…

No you didn’t.
Oh.
Yep.
You did.
I have eaten Sushi at most places here in columbus and by some of the top sushi chefs….actually we should be more specific and say the name of the chef becuase Johnny who used to be at Sapporo Wind and then went to House of Japan for awhile and now I have lost track of him…amazing sushi chef.
My ex husband and I made it part of our life work to try every Sushi spot when we traveled and where we lived. So far, I will have to say a restaurant in Maui has the best Sushi of the places I have eaten in the United States. I have gone to tons of places in Ohio. Beluga is amazing. Let’s all go on a CU field trip??? The ambience, quality and cocktails are awesome.
Is it possible to make local sushi? Walleye? Yellow perch? Rainbow trout? I’ve never seen it done – maybe it would be gross. Would be an interesting concept for a restaurant…
Also, I cannot tolerate restaraunt Hama. When I first moved here, it was good then they had a personnel change and it has not been that great since.
Otani is so so.
Does anyone know where Johnny the sushi chef went? He would make up rolls and always have hyper fresh toro.
However, whenever I think or write about sushi, my favorite roll EVER is the 2004 roll at Kooma. AMAZING. If you go to Kooma and try this and their sunomono you will see Kooma is the best. I have to be honest and say I have not tried the fancy place in Dublin….what is the name Merc?
Trust us, we know. Have you been to Kikyo?
