Construction Starts on One East Gay Development Downtown

Fifteen months after a fire emptied out the building located at 11 East Gay Street, work has begun to redevelop the property. Local developer Day Companies purchased the building last August, and today was awarded state tax credits that is moving the project forward. Construction crews have begun preliminary demolition work inside the building — now being referred to as “One East Gay” — which will become home to new offices, retail spaces and residential units.

“Sprint, which occupied a portion of the first floor before the fire, will reopen in that location once the renovation is complete,” explained Day Companies President Ricky Day in a statement released today. “Orange Boy, a customer intelligence software and services firm, will occupy the second floor. A lease is in the works for the third floor office space and two or three apartments are planned for the fourth floor.”

Construction on One East Gay is expected to be complete by January 2016.

Meanwhile, Day Companies also announced updates on their neighboring project The Madison today, which also received historic renovation tax credits.
