Construction Roundup — July 2012

By: Walker

The hot weather and lack of rain has been terrible for vegetation, but great for construction crews around the city that are moving forward with projects in just about every place you look. Apartment developments seeing action this month include Liberty Place, Wonder Bread, Tribeca, 600 Goodale, Grandview Yard, Lennox Flats, Wood Companies and Born. There’s also plenty of office, hotel and parking garage development occurring in The Arena District. The Wexner Medical Center expansion is adding significantly to our “northern skyline” at OSU. And of course, there’s the major highway redevelopment project at the intersection of Interstate 71 and Interstate 670.

  • I am wondering what they will charge for rent at Wonderbread Lofts? Awesome location, but probably way out of my budget.

  • From here: http://www.columbusunderground.com/wonder-bread-lofts-will-be-home-to-mixed-use-redevelopment

The unit mix will contain 38 one-bedroom units ranging from $850 to $1200, and 18 two-bedroom units ranging from $1200 to $1700.

  • That skywalk looks pretty close to street level. I’m sure it looks different in person and I’m sure they made it high enough to allow trucks to pass under it, but I just thought of that immediately when I saw the pic of the skywalk openings in each building.

  • I’m guessing the openings are low because there will be some significant structural work done for supporting the crosswalk. I’m sure it will be plenty high.

  • I’m still curious if the new Nationwide building will have a pedestrian connection on the north side of the building from Vine to High Street — being an extension of the Maple Street alley…….

The triangle space that fronts Nationwide and High Street would also be a great place for a museum/artwork/park/etc….something more than the little strip of grass and overgrown shrubs.

  • @columbusmike – I’m pretty sure I saw a map somewhere that had a pedestrian pathway planned there.

  • I absolutely love the glass side of the new nationwide building. I wished we had more buildings like that.
