The warm weather we’ve been having so far this winter (knock on wood) has been great for construction work around the City of Columbus. The two tallest and most noticeable buildings currently under construction are the new Downtown Hilton Hotel and the OSU Medical Center expansion. Other projects include the new Nationwide office building Downtown, apartments at Grandview Yard, and highway construction along Interstates 670 and 71.

Thanks for documenting the progress around town. We’ve got a whole new city emerging. New buildings have been a catalyst for more improvements. For example, I think the new Hilton has also spurred other hotels to update and reinvent themselves. Exciting times.
Yeah, quite a few hotels nearby have either been built or renovated in the past year or two…

Walker, you must have been on vacation somewhere warm and dry the last few days?! :)
We haven’t gotten a real snow yet, and it’s mid-December. Generally speaking, it’s been a warm Nov/Dec. ;)
The picture of the Nationwide building construction site gives me some hope that they will provide a pedestrian alley along that stone wall from the alley in the Arena District (Maple Street I believe?) all the way to High Street.
Was there ever a site plan published for the Nationwide building?
Very exciting!

Somewhat related, Maple St (what’s left of it) used to connect to High St. My former family’s business used to located at Front and Maple in one of the warehouses up until the 1950′s. We have some old photos of the building somewhere that I need to scan.
former family?
former business owned by my family I mean.
