We’re pleased to announce the launch of Urban Living, a new apartment, home and condo listing tool that will help connect our readers and visitors with new opportunities for finding great places to live in all neighborhoods throughout the region.
Columbus Underground has long been the go-to resource for news on urban development, apartment announcements, construction updates, condo profiles and neighborhood information. Taking the next step to connect our regular readers with residential listing options is a natural fit.
One of the most frequently asked questions on the Columbus Underground Messageboard is “Where can I find a place to live?” Residents new to the region and locals alike are regularly searching for information on apartments to rent and homes to buy throughout all central Columbus neighborhoods.
At launch, Urban Living has over 50 listings in over 20 neighborhoods with more being added daily. All listings are searchable by property type and location, and also organized on our neighborhood map. Property information is readily available, photos of listings are in high-resolution and agents can be contacted directly to schedule showings and tours.
Urban apartments, condos and homes are already in high demand for the Columbus Underground readership. According to our demographic survey conducted in December 2011, 76% of our readers fall between the ages of 24 and 40, with 34% of them looking for a new place to rent or own in the next 12 months. Currently, Columbus Underground is read by over 120,000 unique visitors per month, who read over 650,000 pages per month.
We couldn’t think of a better time to be launching this utility with a new wave of urban housing units coming online in neighborhoods such as Weinland Park, Franklinton, Fifth by Northwest and many others. Additionally, we’ve been closely following nearly two dozen new apartment developments that have been recently announced in or around Downtown Columbus, including these 12 that we wrote about in December, and 11 more profiled yesterday. Combined, these new developments will add approximately 3,000 new rental units to the market within the next two years.
Landlords, property managers, realtors and anyone else looking to list properties for sale or for rent can do so for free with our Submit A Listing form. If you have questions about featured listing opportunities, you can contact Nancy Colvin at nancy@columbusunderground.com.
The new Urban Living tool can be accessed directly at www.columbusunderground.com/urbanliving, or by using the toolbar buttons located in the top of the right sidebar column of Columbus Underground. You can also follow @CU_UrbanLiving for updates via twitter.
Happy House Hunting!

what’s the advantage over metro-rentals.com?
Metro Rentals doesn’t have snark
Jefe – We’re offering free listings that any property management company or realtor can utilize, which over time we feel will create a more robust database of local properties for locals to search through.
Campbell – Being snarky about snark.
Where can we submit suggestions for the site? I did a broad search on houses for rent, and seeing the address doesn’t right away tell me what neighborhood it’s in. Maybe the neighborhood could be listed with each listing in the search results?
Suggestions can be emailed to listings@columbusunderground.com. Guess I should include that on a contact page on the site. ;)
Neighborhood info in the listing is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!
i can’t get the pictures to scroll past the one that’s displayed. possible bug?
Hrm. Can you email me (walker@columbusunderground.com) a screenshot along with your browser version & OS? We’ve been doing as much compatibility testing as possible and haven’t encountered that issue yet.
I’m having the same issue with the pictures as well and have tried firefox, chrome and internet explorer. Other then that looks like a great site!
I’m having the same issue as ReadySetDisco.
Have already emailed a real estate agent about one of the properties!
this is awesome, thanks Walker.
I own about a dozen rental properties. What do you think would be the main advantage of using this site over say, Craigslist?
The main advantage I can think of is that typically the people on CU are much less shady than those who peruse Craigslist lol.
I do agree that our demographics on CU are a more attractive draw than the more general demographic of craigslist. We’re also pushing a very targeted local audience of 1,000,000 unique annual visitors to the site, 20,000 twitter followers and 7,200 facebook fans to view those listings, so we’re anticipating a high visibility here compared to what you may or may not get with random craigslist searching/viewings.
Plus, our listings are free. So you don’t really have to pick one or the other. I’d encourage you to list everywhere that you can! ;)
