Columbus Rec and Parks update – Pool openings and parties

Are you looking for a summer camp for your child to enjoy? The Recreation and Parks will be hosting a Camp Expo today, March 1, at Franklin Park Adventure Center, 1747 E. Broad St. from 5:30-7:30 pm. Each camp will have a table where individuals can obtain more information and talk to a camp representative. Registrations will take place on March 10.

Dodge Pool has gotten a facelift and will be open in time for the summer swimming season. Some of the improvements at Dodge Pool include a closed tube slide and tot/wading pool, an ultra violet light disinfection system, stainless steel walls, and replacement of the perimeter fence, and buff wash concrete paving. The $6.2 million improvements also include the removal and replacement of the bath house facilities, a decorative concrete finish, and ‘Wirewall’ high security fencing and planting beds at Dodge, Marion Franklin, and Windsor Pools.

The parks will operate seven pools this summer – Dodge, Glenwood, Lincoln, Marion Franklin, Maryland, Tuttle, and Windsor. Dodge, Marion Franklin, Tuttle and Windsor open on June 10. Glenwood, Lincoln and Maryland open June 17. Everyone over 6 needs a Leisure Card to participate. The parks system is currently looking for lifeguards for the summer season. Parks to Hold Bicentennial Birthday Parties

Four Regional Parks have been selected to hold free birthday parties for the 200Columbus celebration. “Each regional birthday event will be free and open to the public thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mount Carmel Health System, Kroger, White Castle, Floyd Browne Group and CT Consultants. The events will include specially designed birthday cakes from Kroger, visits from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, refreshments, local entertainment and activities, history discussions and an address from Mayor Coleman.”

Dodge Recreation Center: 667 Sullivant Ave. held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 5:30pm to 8pm.
Barnett Recreation Center 1184 Barnett Rd; 43227, held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 6pm to 8:30pm.
Marion Franklin Recreation Center: 2801 Lockbourne Rd. 43207, held on Friday, April 13, 2012 from 5:30pm to 9pm.
Gillie 50+ Recreation Center 43229, held Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 5pm to 9pm.

    A bit weird, maybe they are friends with someone, or grew up on Columbus.

     

    Also saw this: In addition to the celebrations at local community centers, Columbus-area Kroger stores will host store-wide Celebrate Columbus’ 200th Birthday parties Saturday, April 14, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the general public invited. Parties will include activities for the whole family, food sampling, giveaways and more. Watch your weekly Kroger ad for details.

    What is the Franklin Park Adventure Center?  I can’t find it on the Parks website, there’s nothing yielded from a google search, and the only phone number I can find just keeps ringing without a voicemail or answer.  I’m interested in scheduling programming there…apparently they have a high ropes course
